i am somewhat computer illiterate.

If i purchase a live stream from tar can i somehow watch it on my tv through my laptop?

I am not looking for instructions on how to do it, i am just wondering if it can be done & if it is just a matter of plugging in some connections.

It has been mentioned in other threads that watching streams hunched over a computer is pretty uncomfortable, which is true.

If streams could be viewed on the tv, i would be more inclined to purchase one if i could not make it to the match in person.

Thanks in advance for any input,

It depends on the connections available on your tv and your laptop. I watch almost all of my streams on my tv, but I have a dedicated computer attached to my tv through HDMI (by far the best method).

If your laptop is relatively new it may have an hdmi cable which transfers audio and video over a single connection.

If it doesn't, then you'll have to use either a 15 pin analog vga connection along with either headphones for audio or a cable to convert an 1/8 inch phono plug to rca or another audio connection. You may also be able to use a DVI cable to attach to your tv.

The absolute last solution if your tv doesn't support any of these is to purchase a converter which can be gotten for 50-90 dollars online or at a best buy or other computer or electronics store.

So while I provided a lot more information than you asked for, in short, YES, you can attach your laptop to your tv and watch tar matches on the tv.

i am not interested in recording it, i will purchase the dvd from tar.
I was just wondering about watching it on tv instead of my laptop.

Absolutely they can.

Many tv's simply require a direct connection from your laptop, others may need some special devices.

Good luck

I'm not positive but I would think an HDMI from the laptop to HDMI TV input should work. That cable carries video and sound. I have HDMI from my video card to my 27" computer monitor, which is a HD TV as well.

I set mine up for the svb vs earl match and it worked great! I had split screen on my 55" Vizio. TAR stream on one side and watching the Celtics on the other.

I have an older laptop without a HDMI out, so I just used a VGB monitor cable and the quality was fine. (I used rca/to headphone connect to my surround sound for audio as drew mentioned above)

NEVER watching a stream on my laptop screen again! :)

also if the shane and earl match was any indication of TARS future it looks good because that was the best looking live stream I have ever seen by far!!!

Cool

i guess that means the dvd set should be of good quality also.

I hook my laptop up to my wide screen tv with a vga cable and use headphones that I need anyhow as I am about deaf. TAR and other streams are the nuts on the wide screen. Johnnyt

PS:I think I will get another laptop just for the tv...good idea, thank you. Johnnyt

slim,

Yes is the answer depending on your tv & laptop nook ups, but I would test it first using a number of free streams we have available almost every day (thank you all!) - just go to the streaming section to select one.

We have a wireless router and our laptop works fine for surfing the net, etc, but when I hook up our tv to the laptop to watch streams, the picture is not of the quality that can be watched. It freezes an image on the screen, then repaints, and in a few moments it's not even recognizable. I was told there may be a chip that needs updating on the laptop but that is just a guess. I really do not know the problem but would like to find out, so if anyone has any thoughts I am all ears.

The stream works great from our computer that's hooked up to the comcast cable directly. I have no problem watching at the computer although my couch and 52" TV would be more comfortable! :)
