Question about weight bolt in AE Cue

I recently purchased an AE cue that has a weight bolt in it. I can't seem to find a tool to get the bolt out. I called AE and was told it's a uni-loc but it's obviously not and my uni-loc kit doesn't work on it. Anyone know what I could use with out hurting the cue?

Thanks,

Hi Z
It's the original uni loc weight bolt. The threads are the same as the radial screw. You can use a pair of kneedle nose pliers to remove it.

I just picked up an AE with the same weight bolt.
Figured it took a special tool.

The butt weighs 15.9 and is so nicely balanced you don't notice the weight.
Almost feels light

The last 4 I had were 3/8-16 cupped set screws made from what looks like a brass alloy of some kind.
The one on the end was drilled & tapped for the bumper screw
Never seen that before

Thank you for the responses, I think with the info a few of you provided I will be able to get it figured out. Thanks again!

Try driving 2 finishing nail thru a 3/8 or 1/2 piece of scrap wood the correct distance apart. You don't need to be 'on the money', you can bend them a bit to fit but try to get them in in accurately. Cut the tips off and taper if needed. I used this method to remove a strange bolt that was on one of the machines at work I had to repair. Haven't tried this it with a weight bolt, but it should work.

Snake eyes bit, aka tamper proof spanner.

When you get it out, wax the threads before reinserting it. (ymmv)

Good luck.

I wasn't able to get it out with needle nose. I attempted that but no luck.

Next option. Use an easy out. (screw extractor)
In the center hole. The down side will be you might mess up the threads for the screw that holds the bumper in place.

Take about a 3 inch piece of an old wire coat hanger, or a nail, or any similar stiff piece of wire type material that is about the same diameter as those two holes in the screw, and then bend that 3 inch piece of coat hanger exactly in half so that the ends are even with each other and the same distance apart as those two holes in the screw, You should then be able to hold the now "U" or "V" shaped piece of hanger in your finger while you put the two ends into the two holes in the screw and remove it.

If the screw is tight and you can't use enough twisting force with your fingers to remove it, then hold the wire in a pair of pliers and twist with that, just make sure both sides/pieces of wire are in the jaws of the pliers.

If the piece of wire coat hanger or nail or whatever you used is just slightly too large in diameter for the holes in the screw, twist each end of the hanger wire in a piece of sand paper held between your fingers to take down each of the two ends to the proper diameter before you bend it in half.

As Vorpal Cue noted above, two nails of the appropriate diameter driven through a board at about the correct spacing from each other to match the holes in that screw should also work just fine, and just bend them slightly to get them spaced correctly. Once you have them in the board just use a hack saw or a wire cutter to remove the points of the nails and also to make sure that the ends are even with each other. Use sand paper or a fine file to touch up those ends if the wire cutter flattens them out a bit or otherwise damages them to where they no longer fit in the holes.

I have a PFD with this type of weight bolt. Could anyone recommend where to get a replacement bumper that screws into the bolt. Thanks
