Question: Carom billiards setup

What is the correct setup for carom billiards? I've scoured the internet for pictures, but I cannot seem to find a picture showing the setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If different setups exist for different games, I am specifically looking for the setup for three-cushion billiards.

There are many carom billiard matches on YouTube. Those and the diagram should get you there.

The book "Billiatd Games" published by BCA has about 20 pages on carom games.

I think you mean the Rules and Records Book. Depending on the edition, the two extra spots for the breaker's cue ball may be in not quite the right location. The old US rule used to be within six inches of the head spot. The current UMB rule is 18.25 cm to either side exactly as shown in the diagram from PT.

I'm thinking of making a variant of three cushion for pool tables, where you only need to hit two rails, but you cannot pocket any balls. The corner pockets thwart the otherwise easy corner nurse, as you need to use more speed to hit both rails, which moves the balls away from their original positions. This throws your angle off, defeating the purpose of the original nurse shot.

I think that selling good players on your game will be hard and for the weaker players, the game Cowboy is already sufficient.

Well, there was a time where three cushion billiards was a hard sell too. But here in the US the main problem with games like three cushion billiards and snooker is that most people have never heard of them before. The same is true for snooker. For us Americans, these games are more of a curiosity, and it doesn't help that both games use a different set of equipment. Plus, Americans are already skewed towards pool games anyway. I must admit, out of all the games that I invented, Diamondball (a bar table-friendly version of nine-ball with a different setup) is now my favorite, and it's likely to stay that way.

thats not the problem at all,
its the american player isnt interested , 1 out of 20 might try 3c. theyll like it for a few hrs and never play again, too hard and boring for most of those that will even give it a shot. forget straight rail and 1 cushion lol

i kinda got some experince 1st hand on selling carom to americans, or trying to i should say lol

Are you sure about that? When I was developing Snookerpool, when I asked people if they had heard of snooker before, 9 times out of 10 the answer was no. You can't be interested in a game if you have never heard of it before. I would expect the same thing for carom billiards. It also doesn't help that carrom exists, which is essentially just a smaller version of billiards with discs instead of balls.

yes ,very sure, as i showed the game to many locals players over a few years, rarely got anyone to try. and before long at all , all back to pool.
its only a very skilled shooter thats remotely interested in 3c ,no league player types , much less the small games.
it was a huge personal drain not worth the cost
that board game was not an issue in getting people involved with carom billiards . its not in they`re blood. have to get people playing carom early in life or its 99.6 percent not going to be of much interest
