Bryan,

Are you willing to share what materials you used for the butt cap and the rings in this cue? I do not think it was ivory but I could be wrong. I am relatively new to building cues and I am having a difficult time finding material to inlay into my rings that match the butt cap.

I would like to hear any recommendations that anyone has to offer.

Thanks,
Brian

wish you luck, bkkpool,,,,,,,,,,I've tried to no avail to find materials in several different forums,,,always the same answers *Atlas Billiards, etc. or the ever popular "it's in my book/video"......no one will reveal his/her true source because it may interfere with their 'sweetheart' deal they have with a supplier or you may order the last of something that they need (and may lose a customer),,,,I can understand this, I'm in business and I surely would not reveal that some big manufacturer/distributor 'gives' me special deals; sometimes for free <- that would cut my arrangement off QUICKLY !

hope you can understand why some answers are elusive and others are non-existent... join some trade organization like the ICA,,,answers may come more freely in a non-public forum...........IMHO.

I believe the white slots are micarta. Aegis II matches it close, but as far as joint and butt caps, I think a lot of people just go with works for them. I was in New York last night and one cuemaker said he has nothing but trouble as far as finish using the same material I use. Go figure.

Maybe he needs to "scratch" them before he sprays them?
Or epoxy coat first?

He claims he does all that good stuff. I played like Schults, I know nothing.

I have been using MCB from Atlas for my white butt caps and joints. I ordered micarta from Atlas and it has a distinct creamy color that is not very close to the MCB. Does Ageis II have this creamy look to it?

I have not used Delrin but I have been told that it does not hold a finish well. Is melamine or aegis available in .063 sheets?

If MCB didn't have those pits, they'd be perfect. Pretty hard stuff.

:(

Melamine could be ordered in sheets direct from thermoplastic makers. As for Aegis, I dunno... where did the name come from anyways?
I you want an expensive solution, buy the thickest rod availabe and square it off on four sides then cut into billets for the size you need

I used MCB from Atlas for the first time a few days ago. It is wonderful. I blew air on the material as I sanded it to keep from importing Ebony dust into the MCB. I sealed the MCB with two coats of Superglue to form a barrier against importing foreign material into the MCB. This is the same operation I have used for years with all white material. It is easier to keep white material clean than to try go get the dirt out.

I believe the aegis is white, have you tried the MOP ivory. I think that's the right name for it.

I have not tried the MP Ivory from Atlas. I will give Chad a call tomorrow and find out more info about this material. Has anyone had any experience with this material? I am also searching locally through a distributor. Has anyone used Hydex 4101? I was told that Meucci uses this material in their butt caps and joints.

You don't finish over it. It is like a stainless joint. You cut it a little larger than the wood, tape it off and build the finish up to it.

I've never seen it sold that way.

I have used the MOP ivory and I like it but it's a real pain in the ass, only because you have to bore it. It doesn't like to be drilled, melts easy.
