Question for cue sellers

I'm not trying to start an arguement, buy why do some of you post cues for sale with no price?

Having to send someone a pm for the price is akin to going to a store and having to go to the guy behind the counter and have him whisper the price of the merchandise to you.

I have to add this to the list of things I don't understand.

Think your Question is a Very FAIR QUESTION.....

1~Want to much and privately posts in fear of flames.
2~Want very little and first come first serve.
3~Buyer may wish to resell the cue and seller doesn't want everyone to know last sale price, respectful IMO.
4~Reluctant to sell, so the harder to sell the better.:D
5~If potential buyer has to work for the price they are less likely to be a deadbeat.
6~Private sale.
7~May not know the worth and privately takes "offers".
Many more reasons I'm sure, but cues, like ares are "Sentimental" items that owners have a attachment too. In which case they "think" its worth more, because to them, it is.
Not sure if that makes sense but I know what I'm thinking. :D

I tend to look past the "No price" adds . I feel when someone leaves off the price they don't want to subject themselfs to market value of the forum.

#3 in my first post is a main reason for not posting, especially on this forum.:)

There's a lot of cues that get "passed around" here.

LOL Thats to funny.. its NEVER number 2.

It's more...

1 they know they are going to ask WAY over and don't want to get flamed..

2 they want "offers" because they are afraid they are going to ask to "little" and someone will get a deal...

3 they may want to gage interest and see what happens...

What I find mostly is that it's number two.

Thats why the initial offer is always 1.00.. I think alot of buyers get tired with this way of selling. It's totally a waste of time, because usually insults start getting slung... :)

Yes, #2 was put in there so it look like I had more options.:p
Though I have seen 2 super cheap deals on here in the last couple months.

I got a couple of words for this matter / EBAY, EBAY

Before Ebay and the www was very young, I was in a group that had auctions, that were handled by the sellers. Updates were daily and I am shocked I haven't seen it popular anywhere else. Maybe AZ should be the first to have an "auction" sub category and see how it flies.

I think another reason is that in a lot of threads, someone will chime in with what they think the cue is worth, which is more than likely much less than what the seller is asking. I've witnessed much of that in this forum and others, and sometimes it's justified as the seller wants the world for a grain of sand, but it's still their property to sell, and there's a sucker born every minute. I say post the price and terms.. cuts down on tire kickers.

I agree with you .. on slight side note, when someone post a price, many buyers automatically offer significant discount from the asking price. I typically like to offer a fair price from the start but maybe it's better to inflate the price and give an appearance of "discount"??

Or someone will butt in (with no intention/history of buying cues) and make comments on the price or the cue. In fact, some people comment on almost every freaking offering on the board with actually little buying or selling activities.

Ahhh

It's all about privacy for me. Thats why I won' usually bid on e-bay. I'll buy it early for a set price. I just like to keep things private for both parties. My IMO Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101

Al,

As a seller I always post a price on my cues BUT... On many occasions, forum members would post examples of similar or dissimilar cues that sold for less. Or some self proclaimed "cue dealer" would post about "wholesale" or "dealer" prices , which I really get annoyed at:mad:
Some people try to knock down prices so that they can steal the cue at a bargain and sell it at their Home Pool room to some unsuspecting mark for full retail price!

As far the department store analogy, I accept the prices listed and do not bicker at the salespeople about what the prices SHOULD be or tell them that I could get a similar shirt at Old Navy for $20 less. That happens on this forum often.

Wanted buy/sell

For sale that says it all. A add should be placed just like a addd in a news paper. A description and price.
Nick

I agree

Agreed but you can not reply to a newspaper ad. Reply posts should be relegated to questions about the cue. Not about how much I can get the cue for from so and so. Or what the dealer value of the cue is.

Then that cue should be sold in the local news paper and not on a public forum were it is subject to all to make an opinion !! Let me ask you this .. How many junk cues do you think would be listed in here if there wasn't a check valve to make them think twice about it ??

junk cues a plenty

I wasn't the person that made the newspaper ad comparison.(Nick did) To answer your question- there are lots and lots of (what I consider JUNK cues) on this forum. You don't need a check valve for a mass produced cue. Just check the prices on any Billiard Product website. So I don't see your point.
JMO of course
