First I'd like to say that I am really glad to have you as a part of this forum. Second, you have an extremely powerful stroke with accuracy (maybe the best of all the pros). What would you say is the key to developing such a powerful stroke? I know that having a straight stroke is a huge factor in having powerful and accurate stroke. But is there something else I am missing? Is it timing, do you flick your wrist or keep it still? Thanks for your time.

I asked Larry the exact same question during the 2005 Carolina Open and he refused to tell me. He wants to keep it a secret.

I might not be Mr. Nevel, but I can assure you, the best way to work on your stroking abilities would usually be alot of practice. I would recommend using (and yes, this is kinda corny) a glass soda pop bottle. Try not to touch the rim of the glass while you're stroking to keep consistant all the time. Your back hand can have either option: to have fluid and lively with two fingers wrapped around with your thumb (i.e. the filipino duo of Efren "Bata" or "Django" Bustamante) or can have a solid style and all fingers gripped (more like Chao Fong Pang). Usually, the key to a sucessful break would be consistancy hitting the head ball square in the face with (and I stress the next word) CONTROL! Progressively hit the ball stronger and stronger until you feel comforable from your vantage point.

powerful stroke

Alright everyone. I am letting the secret of the stroke out to the public. It is very simple. First of all,, chalk your cue tip. Second of all,, hit very low on the cue ball. And finally,, hit it hard......................lol:p ..

No, but seriously.. I think it can only be accuracy and speed. When most players talk about english, they are talking about 1 to 2 tips of english. Everytime I use english it is extreme english. So I think the secret is that I just use more extreme english than most. There is where the accuracy comes in. Most players are afraid of miscueing when they use extreme english so they dont. Next is just follow through and speed. That is all it could be. If that doesnt make sense to you all then I am sorry I cant help. I dont know how to develop a stroke.....I have always been able to do this. Oh, and by the way "bigpocket" shure is spelled (sure). lol. I am friends with "bigpocket" everyone......we here, all know he is a little retarded...

This is a GOOD way to get a straight stroke! I recommend a quart liquor bottle though, as it give you a max 16 inch or so follow through. Practice stroking slow like he said, then faster and faster. The key is taking this stroke to to table and practicing the same way. Being able to hit a shot with a controlled speed (notice I did not say soft) follow through gives you a huge amount of position play options.

After you prefect that stroke in the bottle, practice shots that have some sort of "danger" in it. I.e. a potential scratch of one, two, three rails. Ones where you can avoid the scratch or missed position by putting a good stroke on the ball.

This "false pressure" will help you pull out that stroke when you need it most.

Thanks for sharing your secret with us. I don't know how much it will help my stroke but I will be sure to practice it.
