Question For Masse Experts 1

Can anyone tell me:

1. What is the best type of cue for the masse.

I would venture to say a "masse cue" would be the best, but I have never used a masse cue.

I use my regular playing cue, or a house cue.
I get plenty of action with regular cues.

Stroke shot

I believe that masse is all about "stroke" (like draw) and I don't think they sell a "fix your stroke" cue yet

I agree. It's the stroke.

But guess what...there is a gadget you can put over your cue tip, and it will allow anyone to perform a masse shot.

Masse Gadget

Hey, my masse is not bad, don't need fixing, just trying to improve.

By the way Okinawa 77, I know about that gadget, is it legal?

No, it's not legal.......IMO, it's a joke.
I wouldn't even consider it a training aid.

I don't think the masse shot is really a shot that needs to be perfected....unless you are trick shot artist.

In pool games/matches, the masse shot is a rare necessity.

I probably got good at them because I used to, not be able to jump to save my life, and so I would shoot masse shots more frequently than players that knew how to jump.

I'll give you hint when shooting masse shots to pocket balls.....

Try to get the CB to transition out of the spin and go into it's natural roll before contacting the OB.....or factor in the spin into the shot (aim/OB contact point).

Check out our website at http://www.crowncues.biz/new.html

My website shows only one masse' cue that is finished at this time. My workshop was hit by a tornado in early December and we are still cleaning up the mess. We did put some pics on that webpage to show the upcoming masse' cues I will have ready as soon as I can get back at the lathe and get them finished. I also takes custom orders.

You can also check out the trickshot videos some of our customers have made at http://www.crowncues.biz/fb.html

And, if you're into pics of destruction, the pics of the damage the tornado did are at http://www.crowncues.biz/tornado.html

Ok77 goods comments. Jumping is a lot easier than masseing. You just need the right stick and the right stroke. IMHO you have to have both.

I agree with the above: a regular cue is all you need, unless you want to do Trickshot Masse like Massey, Rossman, or Jamison Neu to mention a few, who are the best in the area of Masse shooting. Then buy a masse cue. The one to buy now would be Crown Cue or a Dieckman [Hard to come by]. Then just destroy your felt and punish your table.

billiardshot...Don't forget about Eric Yow...the current WORLD Masse' Champion.

Before Eric was Jamison [ who is Mr. Masse]!!!!!!!! And I only mention a few. Not even Sayginer!

Just to remind everyone...Jamison Neu still holds the World Record for the masse' competition for fewest attempts. He also holds a high amount of disdain for people who spray their table with silicon before they start shooting their masse's. This is just from talking with him at the Players Championship in Fayetteville, NC.

In regards to the OP, a masse cue is for the very extreme masse shots that you see the trick shot artists doing. for most all other masse's, a normal cue with a good tip will suffice. FYI, Jamison's Deickman masse cue weighs something like 30 oz. or something sick like that.

Dagwoodz, You must be talking about Neu Dieckman's Lance Cue. Which I call the Monster of all Masse Cue. But you right about what you said above about Jamison Neu, except he no "Southern Gentleman". He "The Southern Punisher". Specially with that Cue. And that come from Bobby "The Mole" Watson!
This what I believe are the Masse Cue use now during Artistic Pool.
1. Dieckman
2. Crown Cue [Soon to be number #1]
3. Schuler

The biggest improvement that I have ever realized in a Masse shot at least in case where the cue is elevated to the point where you remove your bridge hand from the table was found in the placement of my bridge hand elbow. Masse's are tough shots I think accurate tip placement, correct speed and stroke refinement will go much further towards improving masse skills then a cue. I don't know if I qualify as a masse expert but I have played with many different custom cues and never noticed one to have advantages over another in regards to a masse. What is Massey or other trick shot guys using when they masse.

Well Mike is the guy that sent me to find Dennis Dieckman. The day we met he told me "You must find Dennis Dieckman. Tell him I said to build you a cue." About three years later I met Dennis and said "Mike Massey sent me to you, and now you must build me a cue." lol Those of you that know Dieckman have to know how that went over. (like a lead zepplin)

After his histeria (2003) I told him "after I am the best trick shot guy you will build me a cue" again laughing he says "sure...when your the best I'll give you a cue"...then I called him at the end of 2005 and said "wake up and start hacking on a piece of wood buddy you owe me a cue." Now I have a collection.

The one guy in charge of pricing cues...said the first masse one is priceless... which really stinks cause who is ever going to pay priceless for a cue.

Mike Massey uses a Dieckman just like most everyone of those guys...you know of. I will agree that the most important thing about masse is the player not the cue...however, it is helpful to have good cues, tips and chalk.

My records are MIA, erased from history by the powers that be...I guess I am not goodest any more? They didn't replace my name with anybody though, it is just erased. Probably a type oh! I don't think of myself as the best anyway... Everyone is the goodest!!! Anyone who is learning masse is very good I promise.

I just happen to be in Long Beach for a while right now today Dec 30th 2008. With Dennis Dieckman Crazy...You are from Long Beach let's call a long beach AZB meeting...All those in favor call me today... Obviously I am awake before the sun...Yes, I slept. No thanks to Bobby the "Mole"

My number is 636-384-0187. I think he might even still have a couple of cues. I don't really know, I am just the driver.
