Question for Pool Hall Owner/Operators

delarge said:
why don't you guys have somebody come in and clean the sides of the tables every once in a while, i always hear owners complaining about the amount of money the average customer spends in a poolhall, yet you don't seem to want to spend the necessary amount of money on little things like this to get the right people in there. if you get home from shooting pool, and your slacks are blue, why would you ever go do it again?

When I owned a pool hall I had my daytime help work on things like that while they waited on vendors with deliveries since the day is usually slow. This was to keep them busy and plus help keep the place clean and once a week I had a guy come in and really do the floors and carpet areas up right.

Just my thoughts on this.

As far as day jobs go for me... I'm also in a good place in that sense (well, sorta). As I mentioned before, I'm a web developer by trade - and currently I work for a small postage-stamp of a company, and work out of my home office. I can basically work anywhere that I've got a decent net connection, in fact.

So in theory, if I chose to keep this gig AND get a room open... I could roll into the room, fire up a laptop and do some programming around dealing with customers getting tables/etc. during the slower daytime hours. I've pondered trying to do this, should I go forward with the room idea, just to keep some extra income coming in. But I just don't see being able to do both while trying to get a room up and running - I imagine the time needed during that part of the deal would be too much to try and keep a real job going at the same time.

I pretty much have the same thing. My daytime job is run out of the poolroom, so I can do both things at once. Saves time and money, so if you have the opportunity to do it that way, I'd recommend it.

I have played at Pro Tyme in Orland Park Illinois.i can honestly say it is the most elegant and well run pool hall around.you would not believe how beautiful that place is.the Owner Ed is as nice of a person that u will ever meet....sincerly CueJoey

I'll say! Ed is a great guy. Always has time for anyone with questions and comes around and asks if he can do anything to make your stay more pleasant. WHAT IS THAT? That was a breath of fresh air for me. They always made me feel like a regular even though I have only played there a few times. I have not played in a nicer place. I too, get no money from this place and have no affiliation to it what so ever.

Glad to see this is still going strong......I took some time off for the SBE and I'm planning to use that time to do some research into the location zoning etc. ....The town I live in is going through a big growth spurt, and there are new strip Malls and business parks going up all over the place....... I'm particularly interested in a site right next to a new Mike's Famous Harley Davison store.....It's like a Harley super store that sells a whole lot more than bikes, and there are a couple 3 sites available in the same locale....but I want to own my site and building as Padron suggests

Incidently PADRON if you could share some of what you went through start up wise...... costs (ballpark) red tape etc. I know I'm not the only one who would be interested. I think you are doing this the way alot of us would like to do it.
