I wanna know outta curiousity, high end cue makers who made cues with natural color maple forearms(curly/straight/birdseye), if you were offered a cue from them or shopping for one and that cue had a natural wood knot in the forearm/dark discoloration,, would it affect you taking it or buying it???

Im highly curious?

It would definately affect my decision, I would steer away from purchasing the cue. In my mind it would affect the playablity, even if it were not affected I would know it was there and would bother me at the very least.

I know of a top cuemaker that had such a cue that he let out of the shop. I felt that if the cuemaker wasn't ashamed to let it out of the shop, that it wasn't that big deal. And I don't think it made any difference in the hit or playability.

IMHO I would think the rationale behind the decision to let it out, and whether you are comfortable with it is most important. Or are you just uncomfortable with the idea that it was let out despite being 'imperfect'?

I have a cue with such a blemish – it was hidden amongst a sea of birds eyes – under those circumstances I would think that was acceptable. it didn't make sense (to me) to discard a really nice piece of wood just because of a relatively minor flaw.

But then again I can easily think of people who would have not accepted it if they were in my shoes.

I would consider a knot, as described in your post, a flaw. I would then question the standards of the cue maker.

??

Stands out like a sore thumb in between points and in a light color
Wood no good

I've seen a Scruggs cue that had a small dark defect pop out on the last cut of the forearm. Mike looked at Timmy, just smiled and then band sawed it. They made another cue for the customer without hesitation. If a cuemaker lets that type of thing go out, he has too low a standard for me to buy one of his cues.
