Hello,
I recently bought a cue and ordered an extra shaft. I had maybe 10 hours of playing time on the cue when the tip came off. I hated that it happened in the first two weeks of owning the cue, but I've seen tips come off like that before. When I took it to get re-tipped I found out that the ferrule was never glued to the shaft. The shop said the ferrule just screwed right off and that may have been the reason for the tip coming off.
Upon checking the second shaft that ferrule, too, will unscrew. I did not get it glued and actually play with the shaft often. I just check to make sure it is snug before play. After maybe 25 hours of play it has yet to loosen.
My question is: Is there any reason why a cue maker would purposely do this? I was going to post a review of the cue on this forum, but did not want to knock the maker over something that might be a standard practice for some.
Thanks in advance for any input-
J.
p.s. I give props to Uncle Waldo's cue repair for glueing the ferrule at no extra charge and doing what seems to be a great job!
