question, request for custom?

I bought a predator BK2 break shaft here not too long ago. (love it). It has a phenolic tip and I figured it could be used as a jump shaft as well but with the full sized butt it's very difficult/imposssible to really jump with any consistancy... question is does anyone see any reason a BK2 shaft, Phenolic tip couldn't be used as a good jump shaft? is there anything uniques about this shaft or "jump" shafts that would make it more ideal for me to look at getting an actual "jump cue"?

now question/request for estimates... How much could I get someone to make me a simple jump handle with a Uni-Loc joint for? No shaft needed just a short jump handle with that joint? Does anyone know where I could get one or could someone that makes cues tell me what they would charge?

Thanx

Just my opinion, but I would think that jumping with a hollow shaft would be a bad idea. Once the end of the shaft is drilled out, the walls are pretty thin. I think you're asking for trouble . . . Jump cues are relatively cheap and built for that purpose.

If you have the BK2 butt why not just have it made into a Jump/Break cue? I am sure someone could do that.

I don't know for sure but I dont think the BK2 break shaft is hollowed out. Its not designed for low deflection so I don't see what benefit drilling it out would have. Also, I'd assume if it's built for crushing breaks I wouldn't think they would hollow it out, with the expected impact of breaking it wouldnt seem to be logical for them to make it like that.

No I bought just the shaft. I put it on a extra Lucasi butt I had. Works great.

The Bk2 Shaft Is Constructed The Same As All Pred Shafts, Just Different Taper And Finishing Parts, Ferule, Tip And So On. They Have The Same Low Deflection Qualities Of Other Pred Shafts. Alot Of The Performance Of The Bk2 Cue Is Also Due To The Butt, Alot Of Technology Was Put Into The Butt. To Get The Most Of That Shaft They Should Be Used Togegher, The Butt Is Just As Important.

As For Strength Of Pred Shafts. I Have Never Seen Or Heard Of Any Pred. Sahfts Breaking Or Anything Of The Sort, Unless They Have Been Turned Down Which Has To Be Done With Some Idea Of How They Are Constructed.they Are Hollowed Out To Create A Void That Is Filled With A Material That Is Lighter Than Maple To Lower The Mass Of The Tip Of The Shaft. It Is Stronger Than A Traditional Shaft. Same As A Wine Barrel Or Lifting Bar In A Gym, In Theory. This Is One Of The Main Reasons For The Pied Together Pieces. Allowing This Void To Be Created.

As For Jumping With A Bk2 Or Any Pred. Shaft. The Same Qualities That Make A Pred. Shaft Low Deflection Shooting Cue Are The Opposite Of What Makes A Good Jump Cue. A Good Jump Cue Is High Deflection With A Low Mass. The Act Of Deflection Is What Makes A Cue Ball Jump When Struck With A Jump Stroke.

What kind of technology can/was put into the butt ? and thank you for the explanation of why it wouldnt be ideal to use the shaft to jump. Rep for you!

I have a BK2, I really like it. I have a jump cue too, but on occasion have used the full BK2 to do jumps. It seemed to work pretty well. Obviously, further distance half ball or less jumps, but it felt pretty solid while jumping. I would think that you could use that shaft for a good jumper.

BTW does anyone know how the BK2 shaft differs from the predator air?

Predator shafts are well known to be very difficult to jump balls with. Before I started using them all the time (don't care to go back by the way), I was able to shoot full cue jump shots within reason. When I started using 314's I noticed I had a lot of trouble doing so. Thought it was just me until Grady Mathews was at my house and I asked him about it. He told me right away that I'd have trouble jumping balls with Predator shafts. A lot of people seem to like BK's a lot, but for a "jump" cue you probably need to go a different way.

I have a full splice sneeky with unilock joint that I can make into a jump cue butt for $80.00 shipped. Just tell me how long you want it or specific weight etc ...this one has a stainless steel collar on it.

Bk2

The Butt Of The Bk2 Is Constructed Of 4 Pieces Which I Believe Was The Begining Of Their "c4" Technology. Also The Butt Of The Cue Behind The Wrap Is Cored Of Brass. This Puts Alot Of The Weight Of The Cue In Your Back Hand While Maintaning A Foward Balance Feel Of The Cue. The Bk2 Was Definatley Purpose Built For Breaking With No Compromise Or Concern For Other Tasks Ie Regular Shooting Or Jumping.

The Air Shaft I Believe Is A Wood Core Wrapped In Carbon And The Cored And Filled With A Light Material. Giving This Shaft Stiffness And High Deflection With Low Mass. I Had Heard The Air Cue Was In The Works For 3 To 4 Years Before The Public Got A Sniff Of This. Also I Had Heard That Calloway Golf Was A Resource Used In The Devlopment Of The Shaft. This Is A Rumor I Had Heard.

Get yourself a J&J J/B cue for $60. They jump and break as well as anything you can buy.

Just my two-cents...

I have the BK with a white diamond tip from Joe P and it hops like a bunny and is still straight and I have used it for about 3 seasons of 8-ball now. Of course that is not a lot of successful jumping, but lots of attempts hahah.

Leave your BK2 at its peace. Get a Jacoby jumper and you will see what a true jumper is. Thanks. Costas
