Question: Which cuemakers make thinner handle cues as a standard dimension

I believe the compound taper refers to the butt. The forearm, handle and sleeve have different tapers from each other vs. the same taper from joint to buttcap.

"compound taper" can be utilizied on either of the shaft and butt of the cue, the term references the breakup of a straightline conical taper "little to big diameter" in gradual seemless steps... it actually is a two individual tapers that are blended together. for example: a pro-taper on the shaft is a compund taper because it's a zero-taper the first 8-10" avg. and then fades out to a conical taper..

All of us cuemakers utilize the compound taper option in building butts as well, especially when it comes to the forearm attachment w/ points becasue you generally have the forearm down to its respected size before attaching it to the handle "so you don't get run-off and end up with uneven points" and then tapering the handle to match up to it... and since I build the butts any thickness you desire especially the holding "wrap" area, I have no choice butt to utilize the compound taper method, due to you wanting a certain joint-collar dia. as well as the butt-plate too, so I since I really can't "connect the dots" with a staight "conical" taper, due to a specific custom wrap diameter, than a compound taper is required and then it's all blended together so you don't notice the transition between the two surfaces...

I hope this gives you a more detailed and better understanding of a compound taper and a standard "conical" taper.

Cool. Thanks, Eddie. Before this I had only heard of compound tapers in reference to three local boys, Dave Kersenbrock, his partner Ed Young and the late Ray Schuler, all of whom are known for their innovative shaft tapers. It's interesting to know it also applies to butts.
