I am simply wondering if they rotate the location of the World 9 Ball Championship, and if so if there is a possibility that it will ever be played in the United States (or North America).

Not unless you get a sponsor to throw a $100K+ at it to host it here. The events in 1996 & 1998 (or was it 95 and 97) in Arlington Heights were great. First pro events I ever went to. Took a number of people to it. Great way to introduce them to pool.

Did this past year's event in Qatar drop the prize money some?

It was 300K from the organizers + everything else like the venue, tables, etc

there was no entry fee for about 80 players who enter stage 2 directly ( main tournament ).

They hosted 4 qualification tourney and charge about 100 for each I believe.

all and all, organizers literally paid for everything. Hey, it's a world championship, not The World Tournament

I wonder how much international involvement we would get if it was hosted in the United States. I know that the US players get a lot of complaints because more don't travel to the big international events, but I really wonder what kind of international involvement we would get if we hosted. I'm guessing the field of internationals wouldn't be that big.

It depends: Is the US an oil-based sharia-law monarchy with the highest per capita income in the world trying to buy international respectability through funding sports?

Maybe you have not been following the W9B over the years but by and large regardless of where it is hosted (whether in UK or Taiwan or Philippines or Doha, the fields have always been best field of any event in those years
Even the qualification rounds will attract ex World Champs like Yuki, Chao and lots of monsters. Heck even those monsters in qualifiers can win some serious tourneys

The US Open field last year was the best in a long time. If the W9B is held in US, it will boast a better field. To many of these lesser known pro players, if there is 1 big event they will save and go for it is the W9B. It is about playing with the best of the best, trying to show world what they can do and trying to make name for themselves. The small prizemoney helps but is not the main motivation for many of these lesser knowns. Easily the toughest and most prestigious individual event in pool
:D

No, never. Not unless a US based entity puts up half a million to sponsor it. If they do, then it will come here. I don't see that happening anytime in the next decade, if ever.

They don't rotate it either. Whoever has the money, it goes there. That's why there are missing years in many disciplines. No one had the money those years.

Right. The W9B Championship has been played in Doha for 6 years in a row now. It's scheduled for Doha again this year and I think even beyond that.

The WC9B has been in the US, just not for a long time. IIRC it was near Chicago twice.

I wish doha would stop hosting it so you could feel better about pool.

The big difference between us (The U.S. ) and them is government money. They get it. We don't. Once government money started entering into the picture, we couldn't keep up.

I think even in the absence of govt money, the US does not have the means to even meet the minimum requirement of added money, let alone compete with the extras Doha provides. Case in point, the 14.1 event. It went from being a WPA world championship, to a shadow of itself, now that it's not a world championship.

Sorry but for pretty much the entire existence of the WPA "world" championships the "US Open" has exceeded them in strength of field.... Yep I made the w in world lower case because it is...

Kevin Cheng slugged thru this year and won the US Open... That was a superhuman feat.. It's worth more than Ko's World 9ball and 10ball combined.....

Huidji See winning a world title?? hahahah LOL are you kidding me??? Go check the brackets... He has no shot at even a regional event here... If you disagree fly him over and we can start with about 10 guys that can't even sniff the Mosconi cup.....

You're kidding right?

There were quite a few heavyweights that played the W9B that didn't play the Open.

Not to mention there are more people in the W9B field capable of winning the Open, then there are people in the Open field capable of winning the W9B.
