There are no real unknown below the radar 'hustlers' as such in uk and certainly nothing to resemble the American squads of 'road players'.

Big money matches are common but the abilities of both parties are usually well known in advance and in uk there are certainly more big money matches at uk style 8 ball pool than there are at 9 ball on american style tables. In uk style 8 ball pool on uk equipment/rules it is not unusual for there to be many money matches each year in which various top players and their backers stake anything up to the sterling equivalent of $100k each on matches played 'race to 30' or similar.

Giving up spots or any type of handicapping in money match-ups is quite unusual and when it does happen it's usually in the form of a few games on the wire.

I've always chalked this way, too. You don't use up your chalk as fast this way, and by looking while you chalk you make sure you get a good even coating all over the tip, which is important because too little chalk can result in more miscues, and too much chalk builds up in the cloth and and on the balls, causing them to cling sometimes.

i like the american way better because it's faster and you can do it whilst walking. snooker style you have to rest the cue on the floor. it's definitely easier to get even coverage with the chalk snooker style, but an experienced american style chalker gets the same result.

as for the chalk on the rail lol that makes me laugh. i get the odd funny look because i dont put it in my pocket.

on a serious note though i don't agree with the loss of game/frame for chalk on the rail. i personally hate keeping chalk in my pocket because it's too awkward, plus i always get it on my fingers trying to grab it.

you should have the choice.

There are various kinds of chalk holders available including little holster sorts of pouches. Carom players usually just carry their chalk over to where they're seated and put it down.
