I'm not a pro, but have played plenty of them sociably and in competition. The answers to your first question is yes, most, if not all do, but some pros may choose not to in certain situations if it is not in their best interest. And the answer to your second question is, generally speaking, no in terms of winning percentage, but a pro just play playing will often show off more difficult shots than he would in a match.
I am not a pro either, But I have met many and every one of them I know does play for fun. Many times they play better because they can just do things they probably would not do under pressure.
I am pro me.
What is 'playing better'?
Is it firing in a tough bank with absolutely no chance at getting in line for the out, shooting 4 or 5 harrigans in a row?

For funsies, I thing pros would generally not play safes, unless there were laughs associated with it.

I play much better under pressure. When just knocking them around I hot dog it a lot and try and do the impossible. Sometimes I play rocket pool and just rocket the balls in and make them in on the fly. Playing in a social game I'm always banking balls 3,4, and 5 rails.
When under pressure, I hit every shot firm and aim so the ball goes into the pocket. Making balls and close to perfect position play is what I like to do under pressure.
So far, I've never been beaten in my basement.:thumbup:
I'm certainly no pro but all the pros I know play for fun. I've seen my daughter play with many of them over the years & she's had many mini lessons from them during those games.
I play 1P and the few pros that I have played for fun have only one request, act like its for a hundred a game, in other words, don't shoot crazy shots.--Smitty
ive taken lessons from my house pro
but he will play me with no compensation expected
when he does he'll go for tougher shots and not hook me so tight so ican get a few shots in
to answer your question from my experience yes they play sociable but you dont get their A game from a shot selection or execution perspective since the focus is not the same
still the pro playing at 85% is still impressive....
