i HAVE A j&j W a ONE PEICE PHENOLIC ferule/tip. Can I put a leather tip right on top of that or will I have to change the ferule as well?
I really dont see why I cant just glue leather on the top of the current tip, anyone have any experience w this?

I believe I have read in the ask a cuemaker forum that you can just flatten the top of the one piece phenolic and put a leather break tip on it. You could probably search in that forum or ask them if unable to find anything in search results.

Can be done. I did it at home with my drill motor lathe too. I have a Fury Jump/break. It came with a 1 piece phenolic tip. I flattend the phenolic and glued on a White Diamond tip. Has never come off in 3 years. The trick is getting the surfaces VERY flat and using the right glue.

Yes you can and flattening the tip and prepping properly is a perfectly acceptable way of doing it.
You then have the original linen or canvas phenolic weave tip as a break ferrule and thats a good thing.

Agreed, seems like more energy transfer to me...IMHO
