Quick warmup before match.

Always test the rails on the table you will play on. Send the cue ball around the table…listen for dead
spots, see how lively it responds off the rails…..pocket bank the cue ball off the long rails and short rails.

The rails are going to come into play so see how they play……at the same time you get to test the cloth.
You can do this quickly but don’t rush doing it or you will miss something….get acquainted the table first.

When you get a quick warmup before a match on a table you don’t know, what’s your biggest concern? Stroke? Table? Cushions? Personally I always check if a ball locked on the rail will pass the side pocket. Definitely my #1.
To answer your question cushions first for kicking/banking/and position
Next table roll off/table speed
your #1 is a good idea but how many times in a game are you going to shoot that shot ?
would be a lower priority for me

Howdy All;

I like to do the Lag several times to check my stroke and check table speed for the North South,
then move on to some 3 rail shots (the Corner 5 shot, thanks Larry), from all 4 corners to see how the rails are.
As everything is subject to change like temp. & humidity I do this every time I go to anywhere I
might end up. Takes about 5 min.

Well one of the challenges of two of the Pool Bars I use to play Tournment’s at well all the cigarette hole, dirty tables, and dirty balls sets.

Warming up was ok, but no two tables were alike.

It doesn’t come up often which is why I try it when possible. Plus it helps to make sure I’m seeing the balls good

Why make it your #1?
That’s always the shot that comes up later in a rack. I’d rather miss a bank on the 2 ball than a cut on the 8. And it’s also a shot that can’t be tried out in the middle of a game. It’s a make or miss shot not one you can be off an inch on and still make.

I guess i'm lucky to have played on decent-to-good tables. Can't remember last time i had a ball going down the rail get deflected by a side-pocket point jutting out.
It normally doesn’t. But I was at a well kept hall when I noticed the side pocket issue with the one side. To make sure my stroke wasn’t just off I set up the 3 frozen balls to check. Ever since then it’s been in my brain to check. If I was in a professional tournament I might start caring more about table rolls and the cushions. But at my level right now those things don’t matter so much because I can learn them as the game progresses. If I miss I might have missed anyway.

I think it has to do with side pocket wear also. If the lines are deep enough into side a slow one will hit the point. So sometimes the shot is only good with speed.

Point is this is something you do not have to sweat. It happens SO rarely its not worth worrying about. I can't remember even seeing it on shiity barboxes.

Awesome! Here’s a better one for you Garczar. Long rail frozen with cb frozen a foot behind. Check the rail and your stroke at same time. That’s got to be one of the hardest shots for a medium to good player to make at normal stroke speed. Stroke has to be perfect.

Saw Buddy shoot this shot with the balls on opposite sides of the side pocket about 3-4 diamonds apart. He made the ball and drew his cueball straight back to where he shot from. FIVE TIMES IN A ROW!! Getcha some.

It's mind blowing what those guys can do.

With me it all depends on how things go when I get to the table the first time.

If it's in a game format with an opponent of course there might not be a warmup. It happens.

But,if I can hit balls until it's time to play,I use shot #1 from the Bert Kinister 60 Min Workout. I believe in it that much. Tommy D.

That warms YOU up for sure
but tells you nothing about the table
