Racist Cue Case

its not a nazi swastica,,..it is a buddist symbol.......

But would you say most Americans who see this case would first think of Buddah or Hitler?

I think that's more to the point.

Oblivious or not, the manufacturers eff'ed up producing this one, IMO.

My conversation with GOD

For your reading enjoyment, here is a conversation I just had with God.

Oh Holy God, please help us all. This is so offensive that I stopped playing pool and just want to talk about the stupid case.

Oh, ok great, I'll just go play pool and not talk about playing pool or stupid things that don't matter. Oh, ok, ...just don't buy the case, ok I won't.

and.. yes I understand, if anyone buys the case it is up to their judgement. Ok ... I understand now!!!!

Thanks for helping me out again.

if they sell cases in the asian market this case has no bearing of being offensive....the buddist community of pool players would not look at it and think otherwise....

My opinion about this is pretty simple.

Most people here on AZ (the biggest pool forum on the net) look at the symbol on this case and their first reaction is; that's a Nazi swastika.

Regardless of the whether or not it's inverted, the vast majority see a Nazi symbol.

I am certain if you showed this case to all of America, the same first thought would leap to their minds - Nazi symbol.

The people at the company who made and market this case, while it may be true they are oblivious, have a responsibility to their target market. This would include understanding how insensitive and potentially upsetting something like this could be.

If the extermination of more than six million Jews somehow escaped their attention, then perhaps one of the many emails they will now receive might cause them to rethink this particular design.

Hopefully.

Well, it offends me.

And it appears they are offering it up to the American market.

look at the Catholic faith they killed more than 6,000,000 people during there rule during the crusades, and the inquisition, about 10-15 million all for god they said..........I dont see people going off over that, and I'm a catholic..........

I already have, and actually this case offends me more as a collector, than it does as a Jew.

I get offended all the time , sometimes by Jewish comedians and supposed social commentators , it goes with the territory of being an American. If every pool room was run without double standards , no one would be in there.

and to think that just last week we were discussing people being offended over the umlauts above the 'o' in Schon

Most people are dumb so it's safe to say they'll think it's a Nazi swastika. I think for this reason alone, buyer should beware. With that said, I feel bad for anyone who owns this case for the right reasons.

If it wasn't for this thread, a lot of you guys would have freaked out if you ever came to Japan and looked at a tourist map. With all the little swastikas marked all over the place, you would have thought the 3rd reich was invading.

Swastikas are used to mark the locations of Buddhist temples on maps there. Japanese and Asians in general DO NOT associate the swastika with Nazis. They are usually just as unaware about its use in Nazi Germany as you guys are about its use before Nazi Germany.

You guys might as well get pissed off at people that wear red because you know; red = Communism. Damn red wearing commies.

This is a photo of Hitler going to the pool hall shortly before attempting world dominance. This is proof the other case isn't racist...they don't look even close!

BTW...Hitler was getting the 8.

Not to beat a dead horse but the last time we all went to Japan, IT WAS the third reich and all those swastikas were worn by your German friends.

With that said, I agree with you. I think this is getting blown out of proportion. I fully believe this case wasn't meant to offend anyone.

It would be like if I put N1GGER on a case --- I didn't spell the actual word so no one should be offended, right?

Well that depends on the intent. When black people use the word when chatting with each other it is not used as a derogetory term and thus it is recieved differently then if a bigot just used it to degrade someone.

The reason why? It is not the symbol or the word that matter, it is the intent behind using a symbol or a word that matters.

The question then is, what was the intent behind the case? And this has been debated on both sides. There is certainly evidence that it was used as a Buddhist symbol as the lotus flower is also there.

And beyond that even still it depends on who buys the case and what their own intent is on owning it.

If a Buddhist buys it due to their cultural and religious connection to the symbology that vastly predates Germany as a country let alone the war, then do they deserve to get a beatdown by the AZB thug crew?

If a neo-nazi buys it though? Yeah, go ahead.

That's the funny part. I can just imagine watchez or cuesblues arriving in Japan and getting ready to kill them some Nahtzi's after looking at a map. Then going to a swastika marked area to find a bunch of monks tending a rock garden.

I beg to differ. It is the perception of the audience that really matters.

Suppose you walk in to a convenience store with a ski mask on with no intent on robbing the store, but the store employee freaks out and shoots you. Now, which is more important?

Not all people will perceive things the same way, but it is important to know that every symbol, body language, uniform, hair styles etc. send a messages to their audience.

Just food for thought. :)

No, Nazi hunting is an American sport. You can go to Brazil or sometimes Switzerland but the best game is found right here in the US of A.
