With score 3-1 Earl Zion was getting out nicely as he usually does but I think keep it simple or shortest route got the best of him here. The shot was definitely not thin on the 6 as he kind of forced or punched it out so the 2 rail shot was there. Not just being critical, just want to point out some options to aspiring players.

But he got out good in the following rack so maybe it won't be too big.
Meamwhile he just rifled in a razor thin cut on the 5 ball! jt pullin for both players.
 
I could see going either option. Depends how humid it is. ;)

Just sayin', it looks like he had plenty of table and 6 ball to go one rail softly and stay on line.

As well, going 2 rails may give more margin of error on speed. It's a close call that I'd have to be over and have a feel for the table.

no it wasn't even close, to go 1 rail he had to first get to at least straight in on 7, then not go too far, totally crossing a small part of the zone and as I said the 2 rail was there all the way to stay on correct side of 7. If it was a close call I wouldn't have posted it. We all make mistakes, misses, miss position, bad decisions but for a player of this caliber (great) it was a huge mental mistake. I'm sure it's because he's fairly new to 9 ball, comes from a snooker background and this is probably his first U.S. open playing Earl on the accu table could cloud ones vision. I'm sure when he adds more options he'll be even deadlier.

Earl won and Jason Kirkwood and Shane up next.

Thanks for the update, Matt....but, please quit insulting my hero. ;)

I've almost forgotten what it's like to slow roll a ball on a table I trust...I don't trust ANY table anymore. That said, if the angle was exactly as shown in the diagram, I probably would have been forced to lag it in, and go 1 rail.

10-4 Joe. I see what you're saying better now. The cuetable is extremely helpful, but not always easy to perceive the subtle but important aspects.

My bags are packed, alarm is set...
 
that tv table had me scratching my head earlier. it is crazy fast and the rails hit a little different. they are not hitting short like diamonds seem to. Zion played ok, Earl is just hitting them really good.
