Racking ethics

Forget getting the guy to constantly re-rack because it isn't tight the best you can do for yourself is to learn how to READ THE RACK.

Use the spaces & gaps to your advantage, it baffles me that still in this day & age players amateur & pro alike refuse to the learn what the spaces & gaps in a rack mean & utilise them, my best advice Joe Tuckers racking secrets 1 & 2. It will change your game & the op's original 4 options will be no longer needed.

I own Joe Tucker's racking secrets, these racks were slugs by his definition.

Should be racked by neutral person/ref. Then no need to discuss ethics and/or if its rude behaviour. Snooker does it right and its probably why that game is growing, as the rules are clear to all who play.

While I understand that the neutral idea SHOULD fix the issue you may want to ask some of the players about the racking at the recent Chinese 8Ball event... I am Sure Darren would gladly give you his opinions.....

I don't think it would be wise for Darren to come on a public forum and comment. It's a sad outcome, if some alleged game fixing occurred. Saying that, I was wondering why the refs were taking so long racking, when I tuned in.

As others have said, this post exactly! After a rerack or two there has to be a gap that can be used to your advantage that your opponent doesn't even realize.

One time I got so sick of making a stink that when it was my turn to rack for him I deferred and let him rack for himself. When he racked his own rack I came over and took a picture of it with my phone... When he asked what I was doing I said "I just want to have proof that you are capable of racking like this and it is what I expect when you rack for me". :)

Whoa... Yeah sorry that was not my intent to cast a shadow... My intent was that he and many pros are in favor of templates or racking your own so there is no variable that can impact an outcome left to chance... I know the rack your own leads back to "are they doing something to gain an advantage?" but it is still even if both players have that ability...

We saw tons of slugs in that event but there were tons of slugs in Mosconi last year and Ken had to break out his glasses after the first day because of complaints........

Beautiful car! I do prefer the look of the 67s but I appreciate all the old birds :) Mine is a Fordor landau, suicide rear doors

SWEET! PM some pics if you would be so kind. :)

Note: Still not sure why T-birds need rear doors :grin-square:

Also cool....

Playing with Idiot/ball bangers

Since your aware of the ''rack'' and situational moves the other team seems to ADD to each game, you might try this. When you see a rack improperly positioned or loose or 'whatever'. Point it out to your opponent and if he/she says there's nothing wrong with it then Respond.

"Is it ok if I rack em THE SAME WAY ".

The response you get will be interesting. You could contact the league operator, take camera picks of loose etc racks and see if this helps.

Welcome to life and all the idiots and such that you'll also see/meet/hear at work and play. It's practice of maturing in life that your going thru, just on a pool table....it's so well lit and every one is aware of what's happening

EXCEPT.

You may also be in a league of drunks and partiers in which Few teams actually care about ''rules''.

As to the league director saying only 1 rerack comment a page or 2 ago, if APA no foul can occur until a legal break has happened so hit the rack off the rail from the back until he racks correctly.

Here's the situation - You are in a match that is important to you/your team. Alternate break. Your opponent is slug racking you every time. Asking for a new rack is not helping. If TD is there he will tell you to get over it after 2-3 reracks and hit it. Opponent will not allow you (and rules require opponents consent) to rack your own.

Do you

1) Suck it up, hit the rack as well as you can, and continue to give him a quality rack

2) Suck it up, hit the rack as well as you can, and give him an equally bad rack

3) Demand a new rack until you're satisfied no matter what, and continue to give him a quality rack

4) Demand a new rack until you're satisfied no matter what, and give him bad racks so he has to do the same

Options 3 and 4 dependent on the presence of league/tournament director.

Also, quick update to OP that is relevant - this was a nine ball match between competitive teams. It's not life or death to us but we are competitors in every sense of the word. Opponents team would push the rack ahead of the spot, then tighten from the wing balls while pulling the rack slowly into position. This allowed the balls behind the 9 to gap slightly, creating a slug.

5) Find a real league that requires that you rack your own, thus completely dispensing with racking squabbles

How about miscueing without disturbing the rack, which would turn the break over to the opponent?

They may not mind if they don't want it broken up good, but it would be interesting to see if they want to rerack for themselves.

I think that's a good idea...or just bump the cue ball for a foul.

It's not even because some players will not cheat and play with the rack while others keep doing it even when they're told not to
