Racking Secrets

I recently bought the "Racking Secrets" DVD by Joe Tucker, and I absolutely love it. I have learned so much from this video, but I would like to know more information about the back three balls in a 9 ball rack. For instance, does the back ball loose make a difference on where you break? Does the back two balls not touching a corner ball make a difference? If all the balls are tight, except for the back three, does it need to be re-racked? etc. I was also wondering about the one not being frozen to either ball. This seems to be a fairly common problem. Thanks.

Congrats on the video and have fun with it.

Remember when people ask what you're looking at say "nothing" unintended consequence is you get better racks.

If the 1 ball is loose from both second row balls, insist on a re-rack. If a gap is present somewhere in the back 3, break from the same side as the gap.

Is it just me, or does a gap between the 1 and the second row of balls cause a double kiss toward the side pocket when breaking from the box?

His (JT) information works great.

What I wonder is what's an acceptable rack when the equipment isn't conducive to good racking?

You know the tables are crappy and the person racking is either a genius or can't rack, either way the result (for you) suck. Regardless of the number of re-racks you have to settle for less than a decent (forget perfect) rack.

Buddy Hall's book "Rags to Rifleman" mentions that Johnny Archer learned to rack from a player (I forget who) who was supposed to be the best at racking for the result he wanted.

Billy Incardona is always alluding to ways to rack on Accu-Stats. I wonder what he knows?

I hear you on bad racking equipment. Shane showed me how to rack 8,9,10 ball with my hands about 5yrs ago, if I can't get them tight with the crap rack then I'll just do it by hand and can get em perfect unless the table is divoted to hell and back.

He showed me to juggle the balls like Tommy Kennedy too, that is pretty fun also....as players we think its pretty cool. When I start juggling 9 balls or so around here they look at me like i just got out of the looney bin. lol

If you've never seen Tommy juggle all 15 balls, your in for a treat....its really cool.

I've seen the juggling routine. I'm sure they don't know whether to call the cops (has to be high) or "stand away from table 5 he might have something contagious" when you do it at the pool hall.

If the balls won't freeze move the balls out of the way and place both hands on the cloth in the rack area then drag them back toward you a time or two. This particularly helps on nappy cloth but you'll still get some positive results on worsted.

A brush would maybe work better but you won't have time for the counterman to find one.
