How does one know when the rails cushion rubber needs replacing. I have a gold crown 1 and it may have the original rubber. They seem to be uniform in bounce. The only reason I ask is I have purchased cloth and will be redoing the rails and while I am at it I might change the cushions but I am trying to keep my cost down so if my old ones work why change?

I'm not a pro mechanic, but i was wondering, do they bounce uniformly bad, or uniformly good? When you push in on the point of them with your thumb, do they feel hard, with not much give? If so, i'd change them. Especially, if you're putting a high dollar cloth on like simonis. You know the old sayings, do it right the first time.....and, when in doubt, change them out;)

rail bounce

They are not firm to the touch. They bounce OK The table has been in washington state its whole life so maybe the humidity and cool temps keep them fresh longer?

I will give you my take on it...If you are going through the time trouble and expense of getting a quality table set up and playing right, it is worth it in the long run to have the cushions done at the same time. Even if it costs an extra $600 to get Artemis Int. cushions and subrails extended with new Simonis, and you break that cost down over the next 2 years, thats less than $1 a day. Where can you go play pool for less than $1 a day?

This is just my take on it. Whatever you decide, good luck with it. It will be a great table when its all done.
