Raising a pool player

While at his Jr. APA league day, my son tells me that for his birthday (turning 11) he wants to play in a pool tournament they are having that day.

It's a Toys For Tots charity one, so he'll bring one of his gifts in as the entry. Good boy.

If anyone is by Ayer, MA, come by say Hi. The Billiards Cafe. Look for bald guy in glasses that likes to jaw 9 balls with a kid :wink:

I'm glad your kid is interested in pool tournaments. I hope he turns out to be one of the good guys in pool someday.

I am a new dad to a 6 month old little girl. I am seriously considering selling my stick, table, and everything else pool-related that I own so she stays away from it. I have seen too much drama and too many lives ruined by living a life centered around pool.

Glad to see that somebody gets it.

But I would still keep your cue. You'll never know how hard it is to find a cue you really like until you have to do it all over again.

How did it go?

I'm only in Ayer on Tuesdays, so I missed the tournament.

It's on Dec 4th. But they have a weekly tournament there on Tuesdays that I play in once in a while.

@easy-e, I have no plans on having my son do anything with pool on a higher level especially with trying to gamble, although he's seen me play for money and is very interested in how you can make sinking some balls turn into cash. The first time he saw that, we were playing 3-ball and I was winning a bunch, he came up to me and asked "dad, what are they handing you money for?". After a bit of "umm.. errr..." I just told him that we play for a little bit for fun.
