have you ever been to the usa and have you ever taken a class with an american instructor and why is it, as a brit you seem so interested in the american pool and what is your high run in snooker...just curioua

What on earth has that got to do with anything? I've never played snooker regularly enough to score heavily.

For the record, I didn't pick up a cue from learning to cue as a youngster until a couple of years ago, when I started playing American pool quite seriously. I hadn't played snooker for 20 years until the other day, when I got an 80 break at my first visit, on a tight 12x6, with a Carom cue I'd just bought and was testing out.

I, along with 99% of Brits, cue pretty well. The youtube 'tell me how I cue' videos I see linked here make me hold my head in my hands. It's very, very hard to escape the conclusion you lot just can't cue. There are many good US players, but few good cueists, and THAT is the problem here. All the rest is just guff. I suggest America RADICALLY reconsiders its approach to pool - before it's too late.

That's a lovely story but I don't know anyone making house size bets on any thing, especially not a pool match. And especially not on a bunch of ex Snooker players that run with Jimmy White and Steve Davis. These two guys are the biggest dump artists the game has ever seen. Everyone keeps taking about how sacred the game of snooker is but it's more fixed than boxing.

How is snooker more fixed than boxing?

You know us americans are real lazy and prolly won't change until we see the war ships heading our way. We are gun slingers and one strokers. We can't cue properly because our baggie clothing and or fat bellys get in the way. But, Again, you can get your best one pocket player and head down to Houston - USA and he can pick anyone from the following list and bet what he wants:

Jeremy Jones
Scott Frost
Corey Deuel
Tony Chohan
Jersey Red

The only time i recall recently there was a true team tournament in 2010 it was won by the UK, Appleton, Boyes, Melling, Peach and Grey,

Along the way they beat the Philippines, Corteza, Orcollo, Alcano, Kiamco, and Lining, The China team, i forget who played for them, and Germany who have very strong players many of whom have not been mentioned, Oliver Ortman for one.

Its an interesting discussion because all the top players can and do beat each other. Maybe Europe or the UK would not be favourites against Asia, but you sure as hell would not want to bet your house against them?

I still think some people don't understand how TINY American pool is here in the UK. I'd say there are no more than a few hundred serious players in the entire country. In my mid-sized city there are TWO of us. Yes, two. There are a couple of hotspots - Wakefield and Leicester spring to mind - but these are few and far apart.

We'd be more than a match for any nation on earth if our cueists took American pool seriously. Absolutely no doubt about it.

now do you consider the phillipinos good cueists and if so, explain?

Yes. Some can look a little ungainly, with American-esque fundamentals, but they cue straight and with fluidity. They play naturally and push the cue through straight on the whole. I'd take their action to be consistent and repeatable over, say Roday Morris' or Shawn Putnam's, both of whom cue like a drain IMO.

Thaiger,

Have you been to Bristol ever? I know for a fact that Snooker City has pool tables and so does Rileys. Have you ever been to The Elbow Room? They have (5) locations and even claim that they are Bar, Club and American style Pool Hall. There is a very big move towards American pool.

Your biggest problem is that you will exaggerate and rationalize to make sure you win your point. And you are wrong for this.

Chief, I know of TWO one pocket players in the whole country. Nobody plays it or knows the rules, or has even heard of it.

It's impossible to stress how much of a minority sport American pool is here, let alone its many derivatives.

Thaiger,

Are there any Americans that you know of that Cue properly?

How do you feel about Jeremy Jones and his cueing style?

I really don't understand what you have gone on and one about in my thread. But you haven't stopped.

Please link me some videos and explain what you mean because I am lost.

How does DAZ cue better than JJ?

now do you consider the phillipinos good cueists and if so, explain?

What the hell does he mean about all this cueist stuff? Seriously, I am lost. I love how Jeremy Jones cues. And a lot of other players cue just like he does. JJ doesn't move anything except his stroking arm. He shoots as straight as anyone I have even bet on.

There will always be spot-fixing in any game, but the sport as a whole is not corrupt.

The comparison with boxing is laughable.

Ok, I will give you this one. But you did not reply to my previous post regarding pool in the UK. Would like to see you wiggle out of that trap...LOL

Thaiger,

Are there any Americans that you know of that Cue properly?

SVB - coincidentally or not, but the ONLY American who'd get anywhere near the Euro MC team.

My opinion on how you Americans cue is not just based on your top players BTW. It's based more on how you teach fundamentals. I've played many good US players - in America and elsewhere - who, although playing the game quite well, do not have good fundamentals.

I can only conclude you are not teaching your kids how to cue a ball correctly. You are replicating a system that worked well when there was no one else playing the game, and hence no competition. Now there's competition, you need to respond or the game will die completely on your continent.

Grew up half an hour away from Brizzzzzzle, so yeah, know it quite well.

Are you really telling me about the American pool scene in my own country?

Can you link me a video of what you are saying?

No need for me to wriggle out of anything. I've told you how it is - a country with no more than a few hundred players has produced a team of world champions. No need to "exaggerate" anything - just compare and contrast and do the math.

Now, is there anything else I can do for you? You do seem to have comprehension difficulties...
