So I find myself peeking more and more often into the 14.1 forum to see what's new and how people on here are playing and progressing. I read interesting topics and try to pick up any information that I can. And finally, I think some of it has paid off.

I've been playing a bit more straight pool than I used to in preparation for the NCS tournament in the area. So I'll play for an hour or so at the beginning of my practice sessions. Tonight, I was helping refinish a table, so I was pulling staples out of the wood. My hand almost blistered from the constant rubbing against the screwdriver.

Anyway, I finish up my work and get a rack. Make a small run of 6 or so balls before I botch my first shot. Then I finish out that rack, breakshot, finish out that rack, breakshot, and get to the breakshot of the third full rack and jaw it. But what I realized is that I was using a lot of concepts that are 14.1-specific, like identifying balls in categories (a la George Fels) as far as break balls, secondary break balls, balls on the rail, whatnot. My runs were fairly well planned, and I think I was out of line really only once during the run, or majorly out of line anyway.

:grin-square: Can't wait to see what I can run after I get a little better!

Nice work pro :) I see you already have it in the sig. If you hit 47 in snooker then I'm sure you'll beat that in straights.

Very Nice, indeed!

You are going to have to get into our league that starts May 18. Your man,George Fels, says he is in.

Also, Bobby Hunter is doing a seminar on straight pool this Saturday morning at Red Shoes. 9 am to 12. Lecture, Demonstration and some one on one. Class limited to 10. 7 already signed up. $50 per man. You ought to jump in if you can. He credits a similar class he took many years ago from Tom Kollins with putting him on the right track. You know how his instruction helped a fellow from the forum named Schmidt, don't you?

Either way, keep up the good shooting.

p.s. Go to the 2009 AZ Challenge thread and then pm Alinco about your high run and get on the list. We'll see how many local boys can get there.

Little bump-izzle for a new high run!

I ran a 47 last night in Dennis' straight pool league. I think it was even more of a thrill doing it in competition than it was doing the 35 in practice. Course, once I get through a rack and then some, I'm on auto-aggressive to keep the run going higher either way. But I was making some good break shots after a horrendous first game, a few good combos, and before I know it, my opponent says, "Good run. 47." So that's a 13-14-14-6 for me. :)

Congrats, John.

You just beat my all time high run of 46.

Seriously, that is very good for the short time you have been playing 14.1. I predict a 70 before the session is out.

I was working on my jet lag last night, but I'll congratulate you in person next Monday or if you happen to be there Thursday.:D

Congrats ! I Too know what that feels like... And i definatly agree that i have learned tons just by the posts in this forum.

I Wish people would start posting up some more Cue Table puzzles. They keep the mind exercized when not playing.

Keep It Up !
Steve
