Randy mobley cues?

I won't give an opinion on the cue shown above but I will say that his new stuff is fantastic and commands prices similar to Ron Haley. The more traditional (4 pointer Hoppe ring stuff) is usually sold in a day or two.

Do rant mobley cues really sell for this much?? If so. Why?
Just curious

Someone needs to be the bad person and say it out loud and since this isn't that for sale thread no rule against that.
No that specific Mobley is not worth that money in my books, infact i'd be shocked if it even sells for half that amount.

That said Newer Mobleys are worth every penny (and kidney).

Why are they worth that much money? His work is just too dam detailed, and leaves nothing to chance. You would need to examine his cues up close and really scrutinise and then be shocked at how he just works everything to perfection.

To add they play fantabulous too.

Recently the fanciest Mobley i've seen was sold on AZ in less than 24hrs for 5 digits...the right cue at the right price sells. That applies to all cues, not just Mobleys...

8k?....I cannot get close for my cue,and i really doubt this one is bigger then mine.

No, I was laughing when I saw his Moon Price first for that Cue, never 8 maybe 3,3k.
Yes, the newer ones are like Gold Barrels, easy to sell but when you played with, it's hard to let them go as you never know the next Cue(other Cuemaker) will play same.
Just my 2 cents,
Ralf

That Mobley Cue....hardly.......

The seller is nuts. The cue Bob Owen made and listed in the Cue Gallery this week blows this one away and it has butterfly veneers and sharp points in the forearm and alternating size boxed veneers in the sleeve and the cue's rings are interwoven ivory links....that cue blows this Mobley design away. And that Owens cue probably plays magnificent....I should know as I own one of Bob Owen's ivory joint cues......best hitting cue I own too and look at what's in my collection......And you could get 4 or 5 of Bob Owen's fancy design cues for the asking price of that Mobley.....OMG.......Nuf Sed....Don't ya think?

The guy who thinks comparing a Bob Owen cue a Randy Mobley cue is nuts.

Nuf sed. Don't ya think?

B <--------- means no disrespect to Bob Owen. Just speaking the truth.

There might be a hand full of makers that do the precision work that randy does...and all of thrm command big dollars... nuf said..

So If We Were Speaking The Truth.....

Since this isn't the For Sale Section, I guess it's permissible to post this......$8k for that cue? Not unless the seller was holding a gun to the buyer's forehead.
I was not attempting to compare the minutia of the cue-making of Bob versus Randy. I was offering an analogous comment about the seller's asking price for
that specific Mobley cue, not that Bob was better than Randy.

Come on.....Get 4 gorgeous cues with much nicer designs that are also absolutely great hitting cues from Bob Owen vs just that one Mobley cue which isn't
that handsome, (IMO), well, I stick to what I posted. The Mobley cue is over-priced, especially in this resale market. Mobley cues are indeed great cues and
some of the cues are worth a lot of money, just not the cue under discussion.

I just rely more on what I see & what my hands feel when I hit pool balls. I could have named other cue-makers instead of Bob but his cues really do hit great.

I generally don't chime in on this kind of stuff, but I will say this as I've noticed it's somewhat of a conundrum when it comes to cues and cuemakers...

The cue the OP had a link to isn't particularly attractive....at all. I don't think too many of us are going to deny that. However, because Randy is such a highly regarded cuemaker (for putting out incredible cues that also happen to play fantastic)....even his "ugly" stuff commands a decent dollar. There's a few plain janes of his floating around here in the last few weeks that are going for prices that I can't understand. One is a one piece wrapless that has grip lines carved in like the old junky Sampaio-style knock off's. This has always perplexed me, as ugly is ugly no matter who made it. I know some are going to say everyone has different taste...what's ugly to one person is beautiful to another, etc.... But let's be honest here, sometimes a cue is just undeniably unattractive. And for this life of me, I don't get why someone would pay for ugly just because it was made by a certain person.

To me, that's like buying a beat up, p.o.s.Eldorado ....just to be able to say you have a Caddy in the driveway

Anyways, to each their own
