PinoyRomeo said:Thanks, I'm sure this will be quite an adventure. I've been on active duty for awhile, and have down plenty of 12 mile marches, especially down at Benning. I've down a couple 18's, as well, with the Germans for their proficiency badge which I've earned and helped others earn. The German's are some ruck marching mofo's. High speed, low drag all the way. Thanks, Rangers.
I totally agree that the Germans are High Speed - Low Drag. I participated in a Winter Warfare course that was experimental back in 1982. At the time I was stationed in Karlsruher, Germany and the main prerequisite was being able to proficiently Ski. The course was taught in the mountains above Garmish, by the Bundesweir Alpine Troops. It lasted for 30 days, and during that time we lived in the Mountains and skied everywhere. The skies that we used had a binding that would allow the same set of skies to turn into cross country skies from down hill skies. We were taught Alpine survival, Camouflage, and Mountain Warfare tactics. All resupply was dropped at stratigic locations, and each day we had to make it from where we where to the next resupply point, or it was a cold night. That was the hardest course I ever had the pleasure of being part of, the last day they flew in two barrels of beer, and let me tell you it was one hell of a trip down to civilization!!!!!!!!
I was part of the first test group to participate in the training. I am uncertain if it ever became a excepted training course, but it should have.
