I've actually heard one of the prime motivators for the development of plastics was to replace ivory in billiard balls.I remember those old clay balls, but I've alway wonder being made of some sort of hardened clay substance why is was they would never chip or crack after being used for a period of time.
As far as I know they were made from clay or something of a similar substance. The old timers used to call them "mud balls"Are these clay or ivory? I've actually heard one of the prime motivators for the development of plastics was to replace ivory in billiard balls.
