Raschig Billiardballe

Hi there,

I think what you might have IS a Centennial ball set. I have owned quite a few sets of Raschigs and I've never seen a set with the Brunswick "darts" on the numbers. Your box looks like the box that came with the Raschig nine ball set. This set didn't have numbers on them at all, just solid colored balls with one striped ball (black with yellow stripe) for the nine ball.

The full sixteen ball sets that I've owned all had a brick red colored box like the one on the picture of Raschigs that I've attached.

Regards,

Steve

I understand where you would think this but the darts are about half of the size of Centennial balls and the ring is half the thickness.
Also the colors are must closer to the colors of your set.IMG00159-20100418-1511.jpg

I don't know the history of Centennials but the biggest difference between the OP's questoned set and current/recent Centennials is the placement of the numeral on the striped balls, inside the stripe vs. not.

I checked centennials made in the late 60's and going back to turn of century. the original "dart" ball set had numbers outside of the stripe.
These are definatly Raschig balls

I had an opportunity to pick up a set of the 9 balls with no numbers and yes the box was the same. It was a very cool set! And I mean VERY cool!

i would love to have a set of the 9 balls with no numbers, I have a set of Rashig balls that are new, they play great. they were expensive back in 86 or 87 when i first saw them in America.

They play much different than centennials

FYI: the "Yellow" tint on new centennials is just for looks, I bought a case of them 6 sets in a sealed case from B-Wick, and all of have a bright white 10 ball, they forgot use what process they use to "yellow" the balls to make them look old.

Here's a picture of the nine ball set, Eric... The picture puts a yellow tint on them. In person, they are really nice colors that are almost translucent...

Yep that is the 9 ball set I have access to(Brand new , never used)!!! The cue ball has ..as close as I can remember... kinda a brick red spot. And yes the box was exactly the same for both sets...

After comparing a lot of different pictures, I really do think that these are Raschigs. I didn't mean to question you at all in my earlier post. I just have never seen a darted set of Raschigs and was concerned that someone might have replaced the Raschigs, as sometimes happens when someone changes balls.

Initially, I thought they may be an old set of Centennials, or maybe a TV set, as there were several variations, but there are all kinds of differences ranging from number placement to the underlines on the nine and six balls. I can't help but wonder if they were a prototype set that were meant to sort of replicate the Centennials. Very cool set!

Hey fatboy!
I don't know why you would have gotten a master pack of balls with 10 balls that where white... something very fishy there, But they do yellow with age.
If you look closely at the above pictures you will notice the Aramith logo in the middle of the centennial pic... Brunswick Does not make their balls, Aramith does. Who was your source for your balls?
I can get a set of the Rashig 9 balls new in the box tomorrow... there is only one set!

Ok just so there is no misunderstanding, I am a Brunswick dealer, and have been a member of their dealer advisory council. So I am kinda knowledgeable about their products. If someone had put a set of Centennials in a Rashiq box(that I had never heard of) I would have still nailed them to a cross on the spot. It seems that this set of balls are VERY unusual. It is one of those things where if you know anything about something... and somebody sets something in front of you ..... you say too yourself...WOW!) Although all of the comments kinda rave about the Quality... I would be very disappointed... Some of the numbers are raised(just enough to feel them).... white rings around the numbers...Might not have been noticeable when they where new.... but maybe that adds to the value...Remember we are are dealing with Communist Germany!
All in All it is a very striking set of balls!!!

Nope not calling you out... The thought was totally understandable!
But being very familiar with Brunswick stuff... this is different... one of those things where you say WOW...WTF is this!!!

The Raschig darts are hard to come by... even more than the Bi-Centennial Hyatts.
