Rate my speed (video)

I absolutely PROMISE to do the exams once I have a table at home, maybe only a year or two away at this point. I don't have a lot of time right now to get to the pool hall so I am just going to limit my speed test to the 10 ball drill, which is fine for now. I'm getting a lot of good feedback.

Here's a 3D model of what I want my room to look like...

Even if you don't have time to run through the entire test (it is lengthy and thorough which is good) I suggest doing some of the individual drills. The stop shot, draw shot, wagon wheel, and stun shot drills have helped me a lot.

I know. I'm gonna add better tracks manually for future videos. YouTube music choices were very limited. Still better to listening to what was coming out of the mouth of the guy in the next room.

I did watch a few racks and would also say a good C+.

Also agree that you will move up quickly with more focused practice and maybe a few lessons.

Nice shooting!

Round 2 Critique:

Nice shooting. 64 ain't bad!

looks like you tightened up a couple of things...

*but*

you can still pick up some by getting better/closer position.

examples of this are:

rack 1: shooting the 8 to get to the 9 you left yourself with a much steeper angle on the 9 than was necessary.

one possibility would be:

you could have played real skinny spin into the 8/rail (5 o'clock on the cueball) tracking real wide on the head rail resulting in hitting much higher up on the side rail which would have whitey tracking better toward the 8 for a much easier and straighter 9 to the 10.

Your good shot making got you by on that one, however, and you ran it out.

the next example was in rack 3 where you were shooting the 4 to the 5. You left yourself much too long for the 5 ball than you had to and the 5 rattled. Just a bit more speed on the 4 shot would have had you in great shape.

the next example was in rack 4 where you were shooting the 2 and you drew into the few remaining balls in the rack area leaving your position to chance but you did end up with a decent shot on the 3, albeit a long one. It didn't go. The point being that you could have gotten much better/closer on the three increasing your potting odds. Kid Delicious once told me; "I can make some real hard shots, but I sure like setting up these easy ones."

I didn't watch past rack 4.

Your break came up some but I still think you can generate more power and even though you're playing the ghost giving yourself BIH after the breaks, you should still be practicing squatting the rock and adding more power.

The only other thing I noticed was that you knocked a cube of chalk off of the table after your first shot and left it there. :p :grin-square:

and with all this said, nice shooting and good job on the 64, your new pb.

Yes to everything you said. Got some tweaking to do in the path choices department.

Another one: at minute 31, I learned that I can't go around the table from the 7 to the 8. Slow rolling is dangerous on that table because it slopes to the left a bit. But I already made the mistake from the 4 to the 5, plus jumped up on the draw on the 5, so I should have lived with a tough cut on the 8 at that point. So I'm thinking as slow as a roll as I feel comfortable with loaded with inside to suck the CB to the left rail for the 8 cut.

the shot you had at minute 31, my suggestion would be one of the two following choices:

1. slow roll it with a 1 o'clock hit on whitey so you will go *away* from the 8 ball looking to come to rest at approx. the 2nd diamond on the side rail - you would leave yourself a very managable cut shot on the 8.

or

2. thin cut the ball in with speed using a center hit on whitey to go up and down the table. The thin cut and center hit should avoid the traffic at the bottom of the table.

maybe set it up and hit each one 10 times and see which you are more comfortable and successful with.

You mentioned that that table had a roll issue - this could influence your shot choice since one option calls for a relatively slow roll, though, it still may be do-able.
