I'm having some joint protectors made for my newly aquired Schuler cue. It has a stainless joint. I dont have access to a dial caliper but have used a machinists rule and it looks to be 20.5 to 21mm or just a hair, and I mean a hair below 13/16". Thanks in advance!

edman,
I have a Schuler joint that I removed from a cue about 3 yrs. ago. I'm going back over to my shop this evening and I'll measure it and report back to you later tonite.

edman,
I'm back from my shop and I've measured the ss Schuler collar that I have. It's diameter is .865". You should make your joint protectors at that size or slightly larger, say .870". It's not advisable to make the JP smaller than the collar, slightly larger is better because should the cue get bumped or whatever, let the JP suffer the damage rather than the edge of the collar.

Thanks guys I will be passing it along to my guy. I bought a set from a guy here and he showed up with some "Things that will fit" Well thats what they did. Fit. There is a difference between screwing together and fitting correctly. Yes I am concerned about the JP not being bigger than the joint face diameter. Thats why some are being made instead of them store bought ones or someones bargain bin. Being it is a stainless sleeve it wouldn't take much to dent it and push the wood into the cavity around the pin. Then the shaft could bind or at the least or face of the joint not be square. Now that would suck.
