Re-Playing a shot on www.youtube.com

Almost everyone is viewing those great matches from the World Pool Championship 2006, where Ronato Alcano beat the best players in the world.

Sometimes I like to watch a shot over and over hoping to discover for myself what was done by the shooter to miss a particular shot or shape. I was watching a shot where Li-He wen, missed shape on the 9 ball after making the eight ball. If you left click your mouse it will replay the shot as often as you would like to watch it without having to slide the button to the spot you want to see the slice of video you are looking for. I guess it rewinds maybe 5 seconds or so. Just a nice feature that I accidentally discovered. (BTW, I didn't learn why Li-He missed the shape which led to him missing a tough /close 9 ball shot that ended the match for him)

Coincidentally, I was watching that same shot over and over again yesterday as well. He missed position on the 9 because it seems like the CB skidded off the 8, which is why it seemed he grossly undercut the ball, leaving him short of position on the 9. Look at the rotation of the 8 ball right after impact with the CB. Kinda unlucky of Li. BTW, here is the link of the rack...

Yes, he undercut the 8 ball but he has 3/4 of the table to be safe on the 9 yet he hit the cue ball with CENTER ball instead of top english. It is his fault for not shooting the shot harder or using top english. He simply dogged the shot.

Yeah, it was the lack of cutting the eight ball that caused the missed shape but I was trying to determine if he was lined up incorrectly and possibly was stroking offline. Sometimes when we cut balls we have a tendency to steer the cue ball into the object ball rather than shooting past the object ball to correctly brush the intended contact point.

Does it look like Li-He's cue stick was moving (offline) slightly toward the eight ball instead of parallel to the needed line of aim? This angle of the camera shot is not the best angle to seewhat the shaft is doing.

I don't see the cue ball skidding although I do see the 8 ball not following the intended path but don't think the 8 ball skidded either but with this video it is hard to tell anything for sure.

I think Li play that shot without much focusing that is why it cost him this error. We just cannot take shots for granted. Especially the most easy shots.

The 8 definitely skidded. You can see it spin on impact. Definitely should have used top. You get more skid with a sliding cueball.

The reason he missed the 9 was because of alignment, not stroke. The reason you see his cue stroke to the inside is because that's the way he aimed it. I think he aimed it by using inside english to contact point. A lot of players do this. He was just a little off on his aim.

Sure looks like a skid to me, too. It also looks like he used center right instead of just rolling the cue ball, which probably would have avoided any chance of skidding (AKA clinging or kicking).

The cue ball definitely clung to the 8 ball plus he appears to have cross cut (pulled his stroke inside his normal delivery line) the cue ball hitting the 8 a little fat.
