Some of us, including me, owe Allen, junior and senior, an apology.

Talked to Alex and Shane on the phone today..

The modified double elimination was declared at the players meeting....
...so every player who attended the meeting knew about the change from double elimination.
They still had time to ask for their entry fees back if they didn't like it.

Most of us still don't like this format....
...but the Hopkins' acted honorably.

That never happened. Just so you know not one person was offered there entry fee back, and nothing was mentioned at the players meeting about it. I was sitting with Shane and earl Strickland at the players meeting and nothing of what you said happened.

Strange...Alex said on the phone this morning that he was aware of the change....
....and Shane backed him up.

Once you have already travelled many hundreds or thousands of miles to participate is too late to offer their money back if the rules are changed after they arrive. Of course they will still play, but that is BS.

I was thinking the same thing.. once you've invested the money in getting there unless you had to be there for your sponsor anyway your gonna play.

Good point

He(phillyviper1) played the event so I would tend to take his word over heresay. He also didn't make final 8 so it wouldnt affect him - why would he lie?

what pt described wasn't heresay. ;)

I do agree, however, could have been done better.

Yes it is strange. Because what your saying happened didn't happen. I was with Shane the entire players meeting so I can assure you that he wouldn't have said they offered people money back

The post wasn't about offering the money back....I just assumed that if a man didn't like the conditions that weren't apparent on the advance information, that he could still get his money back......it was just an aside.

The main part of my post was this.....
....THAT THE PLAYERS KNEW ABOUT THE MODIFIED DKO BEFORE THE PLAYED.
...and that was what the Hopkins' were being criticized about.

So, Philly, if I didn't throw that thing in about getting the money back and just posted that the players KNEW about the modification BEFORE they played,,,,,
...would you agree with me?
(some posters claimed the change was made on the Friday)

I can tell you all this and this is a fact. I played in both pro events and was at both player meetings. I am very close with Shane , earl, Darren::etc. I placed 3rd in the one pocket event and I should have been in the finals, but the original final 8 were played out winner side vs winner side and loser side vs loser side instead of the re draw were 4 winners played 4 losers. So yes they dropped the ball and the format was wrong. And I spoke to Allen after the event and that will change for next year for sure. But as for the 10 ball there was suppose to be a re draw and they didn't re draw there fore all the winners were punished including Alex. There was never ever anything said at either players meeting about refunding money or anything like that. Infact everyone was surprised there was no redraw. The cray thing is that the woman complained and wouldn't play unless there was a re draw. So they had a redraw for the woman only. Bottom line is this I'm very close friends with Allen Hopkins and next year will be much better.

I agree that everyone knew about the final 8 single elimination, but every one was under the assumption that once there was a final 8 there would be a redraw. Also at the time of the players meeting the original draw was posted so at that point it was to late to drop out and get a refund. The only change that was made without us knowing was that there was not a redraw. And that was a huge thing because. Let's say Alex knew there was no redraw. He could have lost on purpose to go play the weeker players on the loser side. Why would he wanna play Shane on the winner side if he could have won the loser side and played Shane in the finals.
