I have a nine ft table with simonis 860 cloth. It plays slower than the pool rooms around me. I had a local table mechanic look at it and he said my cloth isn't streched tight enough. He said I have to buy new cloth. The cloth is in great shape. I want to save money and was wondering if I had the cloth pulled and reinstalled what and if any issues I may have. Also should i clean the cloth someway when I have it off to get the chalk dust out? It is an olhausen table. thanks !

With an olhausen table it shouldn't be too hard to reuse the cloth. every application is situational. check to see if the cloth is loose side to side or end to end or both.

Yes, you CAN re-use your cloth in most cases. As Donny said, it may be situational depending on how the last tech put it on and how it was cut. While you have it off vigorously shake the chalk out of it. NEVER use a so called "felt cleaner" and especially not on Simonis cloth. Once it's back on and stretched tight you can take a damp cloth and wipe it of. Just damp, NOT wet. I work on tables EVERY day 6 days a week and have reused cloth hundreds of times with great success. Hope this helps!

I've seen it used at tournements & they even sponsor them. What negative effects does it have, just curious??

An Olhausen should be a quick table. However, I've recently run into several Ohlhausen's in my area that did NOT have Accu-Fast cushions installed. One actually had Imperial cushions which appreared had never been recovered so was evidently sold that way new.

If you are going to remove the cloth anyway, I wouldn't hesitate using a vacuum cleaner to suck out the chalk dust before you remove it. That way if you aggitate the seam filler (whatever was used) you can replace it before re-installing the cloth. Restretching should not be much of a problem. Good luck!

When you say "felt cleaner" are you talking about Chalk Off, etc?

What is the problem with them?

I've used a damp cloth on mine once a month or so, since I got the table in 2002. Makes a big difference and has not caused any problems.

Do the cusions say Accu-fast on them somewhere?

Yes - under the tip of the cushion, generally about in the center. Accu-Fast is their trademarked cushion and they are proud of it. Any authentic Olhausen I've serviced has that trademark.....unless someone pulled a fast one on a customer. THAT as never happened has it?!?!?!? Hah! Seen it personally twice in the last 4 months.

The Accu-Fast rubber will also be black. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen another black rubber on the market. They do still make some entry level tables like the Sheraton, etc. that are laminate finish tables that do NOT have Accu-Fast rubber. What you're seeing might not be a case of the customer getting ripped off. Just a case of them wanting the cheapest name brand table they can get.

By the way, I like Quick-Clean for cleaning the cloth once it's installed. If the cloth is in good condition and the previous installer left enough to work with in the pockets you can re-use the cloth in most cases. just make sure like BrianHaynes said to vigorously shake it out before you reinstall it. The reason is you want to make sure there is nothing on the bottom of the cloth before you put it on or you'll have speedbumps in the playing surface.

Good luck!

The older olhausen didn't have accufast cushions, they have only been using them for about 10-15 years. I have seen several tables with black cushions that haven't been accustfast cushion.

The Olhausens I recovered recently were 4 & 9 years old. One was an entry level furniture style and the other was mid-range solid hardwood. It's been "at least" 15 years since they came out with the Accu-Fast as in sales we promoted AMFast on our AMF tables against them back in the very early 90's.
