Reason Why Its Hard To Watch Pool Sometimes...

And u guys think ronnie's the fastest player , have u guys seen peter ebdon ?!
That man takes 5 mins every dammn shot once playing ronnie and there was a video showing how he took 5 min a shot and ronnie ran a 147 in that time lol

Agreed..It seems like some of the best players, are the ones who stall and 'air stroke' the most!..Alex P. is, without a doubt, the worst offender of slow play..(and also of really slow racking :embarrassed2:)

If you can sit through your average weekly APA (or whatever) league night, then you can sit through any slow pro players match (no matter how slow they are at racking, pre shot routine, and anything else you can think of to gripe about what they do that annoys you). For what ever their reasoning, I imagine they have a good reason for doing what they do (most of the time). It is their living, so let them take as much time as they need to to make sure the rack is perfect.

Ronnie O's judgement, position play, and speed of play is uncanny, as is his accuracy!..He is
usually shooting the second the referee has spotted the ball!..How about his 147, in just over
5 minutes?..He is a machine!

I am reading Ronnie O's biography "Running" and in it he states that he either plays really great or really bad. He says the slower more methodical snooker players are far more consistent.

The one that kills me is Archer when he starts "gardening". I swear to God he picks at stuff that doesn't exist.

I am immature, I know...

Kinda makes one wonder...who is probably on the right track, the world champ who does it that way, or the non-world champ that "doesn't like it". There are only a few at the very top of pool. They are there because of the way they approach the game and how they play. They are obviously trying to feel something that the ones complaining will likely never feel. Is it resentment? Jealousy? My contention is that the mindset that finds this boring or difficult to watch is the exact same mindset that limits those people from reaching a higher level. No offense to anyone, but it sure does seem odd to criticize the way the best players on earth play. I mean, if you know something they don't, great bring on the advice. Sadly this reduces to: pool would be more interesting to the average player if somehow the best players were able to be the best by playing like the average player.

Food for thought.

24 second shot clock with one 12 second extension.

I want to see a player dog it, just like a crash in NASCAR, fumble in football, etc. that's exciting! Watching slow player run rack after rack after rack is boring.

Have you considered watching NASCAR or football instead? Maybe the problem is just that you don't like pool as much as those other pastimes, because pool is NOT like those pastimes. Why can't pool be like pool, and NASCAR be like NASCAR? I personally find it interesting to see how the pressure can affect the pros. I can learn about how to do things myself by watching them sweat over a shot. But then again, I am a very patient guy. In the words of Rush: "I'm just tryin to make these good times...tryin to make it last". Lol
