As you guys know I have been in and around cues for a long long time
I have been privileged to know and make friends with the greatest cue
makers in the country

Last week Jack Potter, who you guys know as Jackpot on AZ<came and
looked at my cues.

I had 2 Bob Owen cues that he pronounced to be as good ,if not better than any
he had ever seen(Now Jack made the Libra cues)

He said the quality was as good, the beauty and designs were perfect

Now I am not saying he makes $20,000 cues like Manzino or Black Boar,
but he makes regular cues, from the nicest Box Cues to the fancy 4 pointers that
players like us like

He makes Balabushka Tributes for me,I sent him some original acrylic from
George Balabushka.
Now I wouldn't have sent it to him if I
didn't think he was the best

Call Bob Owen and order yourself a cue,it will be less than a tear to get it
unless you go crazy,
He made me a $4000 box cue to match my Kling table, look in the gallery

it had over 150 inlays,it is the ideal cue, look at my Balabushka tribute

call Bob today and you will be happy

His cues start around $1000 for great player models and he can put a masterpiece in your hands for $4000 or even less

he is dependable, honest and meets his dead lines

John Nemic,of Dallas who makes the nicest full splice cue I ever saw told me that Bob owen can make any cue as good as anybody
in the world

Larry Vigus told me basically the same thing
Dennis Glenn, the famous Balabushka collector, thanked me for introducing him to Bob,he praised his work
He gets Bob to work on his collectible cues

He has Bob make extra shafts for his beauties

Why am I writing?

To give you guys a chance to buy before its too late to get one

Jeremy Jones loves Bob's cues,he buys a new one every year and says they all play
close to alike,perfect

Great guy to boot. If you have the time go by his shop/poolroom. Nice, quiet, old-school mini-poolhall right at his shop. Bob definitely knows his stuff.

I don't know what his goals are today, but Bob built his excellent reputation under the Shurtz Cue brand, even though he *is* Shurtz Cue . I don't know if Bob ever had aspirations of becoming one of the best cue builders, but in doing so, I think a lot of people just didn't / don't connect Shurtz Cue with Bob Owen.

Bob Owen is one of the most impressive cue makers I know. I'm surprised actually that I dont own one. Maybe I need to change that.

Can one of you please define "box cue" for me? Thanks!
Instead of points a box-cue has rectangular, veneered boxes in the forearm. Kinda like windows in the butt but in the forearm. Search it and you'll find pics.

Let me echo Dean's sentiments.

I am blessed to own two of Bob's custom cues.

He is a gentleman and as nice a person as I've ever met....I'm 70 yrs. old
and have lived in different cities around the USA and met all types and
crosses of people. Let me be intentionally redundant......He is a great guy
first and then secondly, an amazing cue-maker.

The time and attention he gave to me and my cue designs was way beyond
what I was expecting. He was "generous" with his time and tackled both of my
cue as if each was a $10k cue. Bob also is extremely patient and does not rush
building your cue and the finished product is not only immaculate but incredible
to play with. The hit and feel rejuvenates your love of pool and inspires you to
try harder. And as far as cosmetics go, "Forget about it.".....Top Shelf....A+++++.

I would order another cue from Bob in a heartbeat and the next one would be a
baseball theme cue or a Celtic design I've been tinkering with for a couple of yrs.
However, right now I have my sights set on getting a specific cue and that's my
top priority, however, both of my BO customs are just amazing pool cues to own.

I Love This One......

This was my last cue from Bob completed just before the CA ivory ban hit and
he had to work hard to get it done trimming 2 mths off its original completion date.

I strongly echo Dean's sentiment. I have 4 of Bob's cues and love them all!!

My buddy and I were shooting at Paul Mottey's place here in Pittsburgh. My buddy was shooting with one of Bob's cues (Fluer-de-Lis design) and Paul came over, wanted to see the cue and spent a long time looking at it. He said it was incredible work--couldn't ask for a better compliment!!!

Paul Mottey is one of the all time greats in my opinion

I always thought he was in the same class as either Gus or Barry

Bob Owen cues are also top drawer and I i hope each of you guys buys one

That is really beautiful. I would really love to visit his shop / pool room. I heard from a friend (who visited his shop) that Bob Owen does a perfect re taper to any specs that the customer wants (in a shaft).

I had a Owen from 2015. Traded it recently for another Owen from 2007 even though it had the Shurtz logo knowing it was Bob's work. It only had 1 shaft so I called Bob Christmas week and asked him to make me a new shaft. It was a pleasure dealing with Bob & got the shaft last week & it plays great.

Ps, Dean & Matt, I also got myself a Jerry Rauenzahn in the mail 2 days ago. Got the Owen & Jerry R because you both spoke of them so highly.

LOL, I always like James White cues even better than Paul Mottey cues.

IMO, Schick is the greatest cuemaker of all time.

When I Read About Cue-Maker Nightmares, I Feel Gratified......

gregnice37......

I just spoke with Jerry last week to see how retirement is coming along and to ask if he'd do me a favor and maybe restore an original Brunswick Hoppe
2 piece cue that is from the 60's. As a favor to me, Jerry said he'd tackle this project. and he's such a great cue-maker, I knew he'd find it interesting.

In 2015, I engaged Bob and Jerry to build me my last two customs because of the CA ivory ban being pushed in the state legislature. Governor Brown had already
expressed his views publicly about the need to ban ivory sales while the law was being debated. So I saw the handwriting on the wall & had Bob & Jerry to build my last two cues.

Both cues were completed before the ban and arrived last Memorial Day. The cues have identical specs & are fetching designs...IMO. I appreciate even laying them on the pool cloth
and admiring the exquisite detail & workmanship of each cue. And as far as how either cue plays, well, deciding which one to use is a coin flip. Heck, you can judge for yourself.....

I can easily echo the positive sentiments about Bob Owen. I've talked to both him and Jack Shurtz several times over the years. Bob is a pretty sporty player too BTW. Jack is a good guy as well. Around here their place is simply just called "the shop." I'm not sure of the division of duties, but I think Bob does most of the cue work; while Jack does most of the table mechanic work. The shop had 4 gold crowns; but I think one has been replaced by a Diamond. It's been a while since I was over there. In 2005 I bought a simple 4 point Shurtz cue. Back then Bob had a small rack next to the counter in back with about 10 cues for sale. Mine was one of those. A few years later there was a break-in and what cues that were in that rack were stolen. As a result, the rack remains empty.

Bob's is the kind of place where you can just walk in and play a few, get a tip replaced, ask questions, etc. Very low key and friendly.
