Maybe the guy in furnature biz was looking for tax write off, as the bet could be an advertising expense.
Unless gambling is his "normal course of business" he can't write if off as a business expense, as far as I know.

A lot of this is pretty interesting from an accounting standpoint. He is making a business promotion that is a bet for one side and then he is betting his risk away by betting for the other side. This is hedging at it's finest. Now on top of just reduction of risk, the enormity of the bets give him free advertising. How much would he pay to get national exposure like this?
Powerful. This is a good quote from him in the article:
“A setback is just a setup for a comeback.”
he lost big on the Astros to beat the Nationals and the Braves iircHe’s been betting it up real big the last year or so. It’s always in the Vegas paper. Idk if he’s up or down. Word on the street is he’s a brilliant biz man and cool guy. Good luck to him.

Sounds right. He lost a ton on the World Serieshe lost big on the Astros to beat the Nationals and the Braves iirc
He's Vegas Dave with real money.Sounds right. He lost a ton on the World Series
He had a dee big bets down the year before as well, I can’t recall what the result was.
Usually guys betting like him don’t want the attention. This guy seems to be betting for attention which isn’t normal at these stakes. There’s plenty of action this size or close to it that never ever makes the news, just a handful of casino employees know of it. Living in vegas is why I look know about it.

If you have $1B it is not even a rounding error.$4.5 Million is a lot of money to lose if Cinci doesn't play so well.
Very well said! He's Vegas Dave with real money.
If I recall when the hurricanes ravished Houston, this guy opened up his furniture stores as shelters. He let people sleep in the beds and all. Meanwhile just down the road Joel Osteen locked the churches doors.Agreed, he makes some good points in that article. He also mentioned he was "heavy" on the other side when he lost the college football championship (meaning his furniture sales outpaced his bet) AND he gave $1000 gift cards to the losers.
Seems like a pretty good guy to me.
Welp that didn’t work out so good oops$4.5 Million is a lot of money to lose if Cinci doesn't play so well.
It is and it isn’tCould be big publicity stunt like Hollywood use to do to print films.
Yep, he's a genuinely good guy, and helps out in a lot of different ways.If I recall when the hurricanes ravished Houston, this guy opened up his furniture stores as shelters. He let people sleep in the beds and all. Meanwhile just down the road Joel Osteen locked the churches doors.
