Recovering Valley And New Cushions For First Time

I have talked the local bar into recovering their Valley pool table with Simonis 860 and getting new cushions put on. I've been recruited to help with the project now though.

I am finding lots of video tutorials online that seem easy enough, but the problem is none of them show this process on a Valley/Bar table. I'm sure the process is quite different especially for the cushions. The only info I know about the table is that it's a Valley from the late 70's to mid 80's.

How will adding the cushions to the rails be different?

How will adding the felt to the rails be different?

Are there pre-covered rails that will work well and have Simonis 860 or felt matching the simonis colors?

Thanks for any help. I'd like to do this project for under $320 for materials. I can get the Simonis surface and rail felt for $220 shipped (pm if I can get it cheaper).

Table

Remove the ball door and look top center on the table under the side pocket. Locate serial #, It's in plain sight.

Measure the rail from nose to laminate and measure the playing surface.

Get a hold of Kerry at ridgebackrails.com for the rails, and go to Seyberts.com for the Simonis DVDs on how to recover valley rails and slates.

I'm not an established mech but I have been working on alot of valleys lately. Check out Penguin amusement. Its a pretty good site for what you're looking for.

I gotta agree with RKC: if you want the best playing valley you can possibly have calling Kerry at ridgeback rails is the way to go, !! He will explain everything and even give you some pointers over the phone like the bolts that tend to loosen on valleys, how to make adjustments, and what to look for. He even has a DVD he made on how to preform the recover and last I checked he was only $5 for the DVD. Good luck with the the project.
