Hey, just thought I'd post this as Frankenstroke and I just returned from Red Shoes after playing a few hours of 9-ball and one-pocket.

It's been several months since we've been there, but when we arrived this evening, we were greeted at the counter with "the bar is open"....they now have a bar. They also have burgers/fries/chips, etc. I guess due to Illinois smoking laws(?), there's no smoking inside anymore. This has always been a nice room, but things have gotten even nicer since the last time we were there.

Ike was on one of the action tables playing one-pocket, tuning up for the DCC no doubt!

If anyone is in the south Chicago area, you should pay Red Shoes a visit.

Just curious, Ragbug74, how do Ike and John Zaksas match up playing banks now? I know how they did 15 years ago, thanks.

Hemi,

I haven't been around there much, so I couldn't tell you. Tonight, Ike and John were playing one-pocket on different tables, against different opponents. I didn't see any banks being played....mostly one-pocket.

From what I've seen Zaksas is a better banker than Ike. Jmo, Scott

For sure he used to be, cscott. John for many years was the most underrated bank pool player in the country. He's a good guy too. I used to do some things with him when I lived in Chi-Land.

It's a lot livelier since the bar and kitchen opened. They got a couple of bar boxes and some leagues going a few nights a week.

Bobby Hunter was playing Piggy Banks some one pocket a few days ago. I don't know how it ended.

Has Piggy been there much ?

I saw Piggy there last Monday. When I went there thursday, they said he had been there the two previous evenings and was expected again that night.

Hey Dennis........

What does Johnny do when he wants a smoke??? (go outside and stand in the cold??????) The no-smoking thing is nice for us that don't smoke, but it's got to be tough on the players that do, Scott

thanks for the post. I play golf up thatta way a few times a year (Cog, Ruffled Feathers, Prairie Bluff, and others) with friends who live in the Chicagoland area, so I'll be sure to look it up when I visit.

Tell John and John Alex said hi. I stopped by there right after the bar opened up. Zaksas was showing it off. We sat around and talked about the old days for a while.

I helped them open that place 14 years ago when I lived out there. Back then I didn't play any one pocket but now that's all I want to play.

There is an electronic(sorta) cigarette that can be smoked anywhere(no smoke) gives you the nicotene sp? without the carcinogens or tar(not the TAR we all love) all that is exhaled is water vapor. cost is equal to around $4-$4.50 per pack(cartridge).

I told John Lavin last night. He says hi. Says you played pretty well and so did your wife.

Red Shoes

Jeff Carter showed up last night. Ike Runnels was there. Sergio Velez was there. More guys may have shown up after I left.

Not only is it the premier Bank and One Pocket Pool Hall in the area, they have also been hosting straight pool leagues for fourteen years. We started our new session with 18 players last night.

On January 17th and 18th they are hosting a Qualifier for the NCS 8-Ball National Championships. Contact John Lavin 708 388-3700 for info.
