Hello all,
My last thread request was about Scotty Townsend, road stories, past and present and it got a very large response. At last count there were 1532 hits and 47 replies.
So I wanted to try again with Mr. Reed Pierce. The last time I personally saw him compete was at the 1995 U. S. Open, which he won. Congratulations Reed!!!! Question is, how or why, does such a top level player disappear off the PRO POOL radar screen? He was, and I assume, still is a fierce competitor. Just haven't heard much about him in a long time.
So, any past or present stories would be very interesting reading material. Please help!!
 
There are hundreds of reasons why good pool players disappear. I do not know the correct one. Maybe family, kids, needed a job, medical, couldn't get to the tourneys, etc. To tell you the truth I haven't heard of Reed Pierce before...but I am young and haven't head of a lot of players. When i first started CJ Wiley was winning a lot, and he doesn't seem to be around anymore either. I will be very interested in the outcome of this thread and learn more about them.
 
Reed still lives here in the Jackson area. He plays in a few local tournaments but the golf, hunting and fishing is sooooooooo good here. Reed is lucky enough not to need the pro tour any more money wise or the headaches that accompany it. He occasionally matches up with a roadie here but doesn't chase action any more.

I saw Reed Pierce plays years ago.........and thought he was GOD! He is in the same class as Scotty I think.......The kind of player that at any given time could beat anybody! If that makes sense??? lol!
Reed always seemed to have a good attitude.
Another player that I use to look up to was Dave Matlock! I saw Dave playing Archer in the finals of a tourny. Archer was on the winners side.....So they go hill hill. Archer runs down to the 7 and rattles the ball in the pocket, and jaws up! He jumps up, utters a bad word, and swings his stick like a baseball bat!
Matlock wins the first set........Second set goes hill hill! Except this time Matlock is running out and gets to the 7.......He shoots it.......and has to go 3 rails to get shape. He hits it a little strong.....and scratches 3 rails in the corner. He makes a disappointed face and gets the cue ball out of the hole. Sets it close to where Archer would have put it, and walks back to his chair. That impressed me........I saw how you can act, and how you should act. And got to see a great finals match!
 
His us-open win was the pure luck! Im no saying he isn"t good player but when he bet Reyes it was just his lucky day!

If I translate this statement correctly, couldn't that be said of anyone on the planet? Not just Reed. Or, by chance did King lose money on that particular 1995 match, LOL?
 
Hemicudas, what is it with you in average pro pool players? I think you have a soft spot for the underdog. It was a lucky match for reed, Reyes used so much of his skills in the semi-final with archer he was just spent, what has reed won since, Ill tell you, Not much!!! lol
 
King, every word you say is TRUE. You need to realize though that Efren is NOT the only great player on earth. I like Efren. I got along well with him when he and I both lived in Chicago. I have also stated that I believe Efren to be the best living player.

Did you not read the part where I said, anyone who beats Efren could be said to be "Having a lucky day"?

Everyone has their favorite players. Your's, obviously, is Efren. All anyone is asking is that you acknowledge that there are great players, other than Efren.

King, I would have been too embarrassed to ask for what I needed to win. Although Efren did give out some unbelieveable spots in Chi-town. Not many people in Chicago knew exactly how I played. That includes Efren. If Efren had given me enough to win, everyone in Chicago would have known exactly how I played. Having people under rate your game is an asset.

Plus, it was more of a pleasure watching Efren thump someone other than me, LOL.
 
I just read an article in the new BD I just got in the mail. It was about Parica and how he feels that he's never been given the credit he deserves and that he feels he's been unfairly in Efren's shadow. I met Parica about 7 or 8 years ago and I asked him how him and Efren would match up. He was pretty sensitive about it. He said that Efren got a lot of credit for the things he did. He said he was the one that ran 12 racks on a guy in Texas but Efren was being credited for it.

The article cited Archer as saying that for the money, no one wants to play Parica heads up. I thought that was pretty interesting. I didn't know Parica was that good for the cash. I mean I knew he was good but this article says that he was king of the money players when he was playing for the cash. Parica says that he hasn't played for money that much in while now because he's concentrating on winning tournamnents.

You might wanna jump on him while he still has jet lag.
Alex will be glad to back him up against you getting 10-5.:p
 
Jose is a lion. He is not afraid of anyone and lets his game do the talking for him. He doesnt showboat or try to nice-nice. His knowledge of all games is complete. Always high up in the money and will bet it up too. Has played everyone on this planet. Jose is to Efren to me what Kareem was to Magic. Efren is the people's champion. Jose is a players player. He doesnt have the flair that a Efren or a Busta has because he always gets shape and runs out in a workman like fashion. I dont think he is a god or is perfect but he really should get his due. When he was Player of the year and beat everyone on the Camel tour he didnt get the usual cover on BD. It seems ironic that he gets the cover with a less than laudatory story.

Shhh, don't tell anybody, but guess who was the 1st World 9-ball Champ? Hint: it wasn't Efren.

Efren is ARGUABLY the best player in the world right now.

Bustamonte is ARGUABLY the best player in the world right now.

Pagulayan is ARGUABLY the best player in the world right now.

That's what makes this game so great- the best player doesn't always win.

Oh- BTW: neither Efren, Busta, nor Alex have never beaten me.

The critical question is, did you ever play Efren, Busta or Alex? If you did, I'm scared of you!
 
LOL against me? lol Efren could give me the 5 and the break and i would still be so shook i couldnt play!!! lol lol
