Refinishing a cue

Hey Cuemakers,

I recently purchased a cue from a well-known manufacturer and it arrived with dust or air or something in the finish. It was quite noticeable, so I took a few pictures and contacted the manufacturer. To their credit, they acknowledged the problem, apologized that the cue had made it through Q&A in that state, and offered to refinish the cue for me. It's a limited edition cue, so a straight replacement is not the best answer.

My question is, how easy and effective is it to refinish a cue? Is this something that is straightforward and should 100% fix the problem, or is it only a partial fix that risks doing more damage?

I'm mostly asking out of my own curiosity. If it doesn't turn out as expected I'll demand a refund.

Thanks.

Send the cue back, everything will be fine.

If the original manufacturer is doing the work it should fine with zero problems I can think of.

Hi,

What you called dust could very well be dive back which is tiny specs of off gas trapped in the finish. This happens if one of the finish coats is sprayed on too thick or the flash time between coats was not long enough.

The cue must be sanded all the way down into the adhesion coat and then start the finish process all over again.
