Regarding Chris Cass

This was a note I had waiting for me when I got home from Vegas last night.

Ok, we just got back from the hospital and have to go right back so I don't have much time to fill in all the details, but basically, Chris has been given less than 24 hours. Everyone's thoughts and prayers, and everything you all have done for us has been above and beyond friendship and I thank each and every one of you. Don't know how on earth i ever would have gotten through everything without you all. I will let you all know when he does pass and what plans are in the works for a memorial.

I love you all.

Bob,

This is the post I've been dreading to see. Thank you for letting us know.

The first time I ever saw Chris Cass shoot pool was in 2003, but it was the next year at the 2004 Open that I was given the chance to meet and talk with him. While most were sleeping or in action over at Q-Masters pool room, Chris and I were early risers, hanging out at 4:00 a.m. by the computer in the lobby of the Holiday Inn. Chris was providing updates to CCB, and I was doing the same on AzBilliards! :p

I was grateful to have his company. Chris told me of his adventures in Chicago during his younger years, when the action was prevalent. He is so very passionate about pool, and there is no question that he was enjoying his experience at the U.S. Open, though he did mention he was extremely fatigued. Between matches, he was helping a vendor with a booth. Even though it was difficult for him physically, he was happy as a clam just being there.

Later that night, I saw "Tom from Cincy" snapping a few pics in the hallway, and I spotted Chris nearby. With Keith in tow, I immediately went over to Chris and politely asked him, "Chris, please let me take a picture of you and Keith," as I am wont to do at pool events. Chris looked at me and said, "You want a picture of me?," to which I replied, "Of course, I do. You are Chicago Chris!"

My very best wishes go out to Chris and his family! Picture of Chicago Chris and Earthquake below!

I too met Chris at the computer at the hotel during last years Open. Chris taught me how to use the WEI table. I watched his last match, which went hill-hill, but he lost. Chris is a very nice guy and I'm glad I had the chance to meet him. My prayers go out to him and his family. Peace, John.
