rehabing a GC3. Subrails? Rubber?

Have a friend putting together a '74 9ft GC3. He'd like it tight.

Do I extend the subrails or just shim? I can shim the hell out of a table, but know little about subrail extension techniques.

Also, he's of the midset to stick with Bruns and use Superspeed cushions. Is there a better piece of rubber? I've read a little about artimis and an intercontinental, but again, know little about non-oem choices.

Just trying to help get this guy a tough table out of the ole workhorse he's starting out with.

The correct way to tighten pockets is to extend the sub-rails, but at the same time make sure you correct the pocket angles as Brunswick's don't always have the same pocket angles on both sides of the pockets. Brunswick Superspeed cushions are OK, but the best is the Artemis K55's.

Looks like his timing is perfect. Trade in his rails for the ones Donny (above thread) has already modified to 4.25, and covered with Simonis tour blue, that just became available again. As compared to shims, it's a no-brainer.

Yeah, are those the ones going for $1,500? If so, that's definitely a no brainer... fix the old ones.

Keep in mind that has a $300 set of cushions and I will buy back your old rails.

Donnys is offering a good deal' those are the best rails a man could get...If all else call brunswick and see about a upgrade kit.....the kit would upgrade your GC3 to a GC5. New_rails,aprons,casting,pockets,ball storage,ball return and I think the leg levelers too..

When having a gold crown worked on there is only one way to do it..and that's the rite way..its worth every dime! Thats a no-brainer

But keep in mind that he would still have to repair the pockets as Glen mentioned. My new GC5 was a POS until Donny fixed the rails. If it was me, I'd jump on those rails that Donny has.
