Reinvention of a Pool Game

Here is a wild idea:

Someone told me once that millenials who are a key demographic today were causing things to have to reinvent themselves and here is something of a reinvention of pool games.

How about 9-ball reinvented...to Shoot Bank Shoot.

Same game, same rules only you have to Shoot a ball to position for a Bank shot you bank that ball then get to shoot the next.

I see it working like this:

Break the rack, ball goes in or not, the player up starts with the 1 ball and if he makes it by shooting it in, he plays position for a bank shot. The bank shot can be any ball he choses out of sequence and then he has to shoot the 2. Then the same rules apply down to the 9 ball. Call shots on the banks only.

Its a reinvention of 9 ball but it makes it harder and its exciting to see how they do the things they are going to have do and makes a full use of all of the skills of pool.

So what do you think? Let the flames roar.

Making pool harder is a really bad idea to attract new players. For diehard pool players and fans, this game might be interesting.

I would agree but...

SJM,
I would normally completely agree with you but when I thought about it the reason I like this idea was the fact that it introduced something that was up for grabs....a bad layout makes it hard and it makes it maybe exciting to see what the player is going to do. Its not the same old run out machine we are used to seeing and it incorporates banks which are always exciting to me.

What made me think of it was the excitement to see who is going to make a world beater shot and have a chance to get out and getting out isn't so easy so betting on something like this is a true crap shoot....

It is not for the light of heart but I love banks and this and interesting way to include them in the mainstream pool world so that me wishing banks were more a part of the game and hoping that would spark some interest...

I hope so anyway.

I agree, we need a way to bring more people in (D, or sub D level).

Give it a try....something new!!

I am going out this afternoon and see if my partner will give this a try with me. I should be able to comment on how the games went.

Pool doesn't need invention, reinvention or innovation.
It just needs to address itself correctly.
Perhaps a new suit

I agree. Kids and adults want things to come easy today with not very much thinking. johnnyt

Ideal gone bad

Well its an interesting game. Wont be many run outs I can tell you that. Probably not the best idea Ive had. It ends up being almost like One Pocket. Lots of defensive shots and long games.
