removing weight from cue

i have a jump break cue that i need to remove some weight from. the cue has no weight bolt in it, although it is drilled and tapped for one. the weight bolt hole is about 5" deep and is for a 1/2x12 bolt. there is something metal in the end of the hole. the cue is currently 19.4oz and i would like it at least 18.5, 18 would be even better. the butt is made from bird's eye maple. is it possible to remove this much weight? i assume that it would require coring out the butt? would i lose the ability to change the weight with a weight bolt? how much would something like this cost?

Could the something metal at the end of the hole be a weight bolt. Most weight bolt holes are a little over 6" deep so there could be a 1" weight bolt in it. Shine a flashlight into the hole and see if it has a slot or any means of getting it out. To drill through the metal if it is not the weight bolt could be risky as it is probably holding something together.

you were right, the metal thing in the end was a weight bolt! it was really deep and even with a flashlight it was hard to see in there. i was expecting the weight bolt to be at the beginning of the hole with a head and shoulder. the bolt was very odd though, i've never seen one like it. i had to use a 5/16 hex wrench to get it out. the butt is one solid piece of wood, so i know it isn't holding anything together. the bolt ended up being 1.8oz and the hole is 8" deep, so this will work out well. thanks!

How could the butt be one solid piece of wood, if it's a JUMP break cue?...JER
