glad it's finally over for you Ron, as you have said another issue is about to explode, hopefully things turn out clear
 
I'm glad everything is OK and hopefully now he will pay the other guy? You would think he would have paid him before 2 years! Take it easy my friend, Ron
 
To one and all:

I am happy to say that the cue arrived about 30 minutes ago in good shape.

I am convinced that all the pressure put on Ren by our good AZ members in The Philippines and other responsible and respectable members of the PI pool community were the reason that this cue was finally shipped.

There is another odd development regarding the cue as well. I was contacted by some of the PI group to tell me that Ren "stole" the cue from a player there and that I bought "stolen property".

Actually "stole" is not the right word because what happened was this player sold the cue to Ren with an agreement to be paid later. I believe that was 2 years ago.

The player objected to my receiving this cue.

What is described is a bad debt from Ren (if true), not a theft. He does have the legal right to sell the cue, although clearly not the moral right.

The player is threatening legal action against Ren.

While I have done nothing wrong and, in fact, only found out about this situation yesterday, long after the cue was shipped, I have offered to this player that if he sends the exact amount of money that I paid for the cue plus shipping costs back to PI, I will return the cue.

I do not have time now to post pictures of the cue but will be happy to post them later.

Again, I cannot express highly enough how much I appreciate the help of all here on AZ and of the PI pool community who made such a difference in how this transaction turned out.

at least you have the cue Ron. but honestly, having something that has issues with it, so many so to speak, makes it a bit uneasy for me, if i were in your place. anyway, the problem is not yours anymore. also, it is a good gesture to offer to send it back with the amount you paid given back to you. that cue has so much controversy and 'mud' in it, if all are true.

a can of worms have been opened.

I can not believe that this guys rep has been turned green again already.
Selling a cue that you don't actually own and then waiting over 2 weeks to ship it and doing so only under the pressure of your peers IMO does not deserve green rep..:angry::angry:
Do you guys realize that a green counts twice as much as a red.
If you gave the guy a red and then gave him a green once he finally sent the cue you are in essence not just making it even. You are adding points.
Not that it matters it's only Rep. But it just ain't right for him to come out ahead. :(

So, Ren has the guy's cue for two years and doesn't pay for it and the original owner never thought to go get the cue back and then objects that you get it?

The situation is clear - Ren got the money and he owes money to the original seller. So the original seller should go get the money from Ren.

Was the cue reported stolen? If not then it's not stolen property.

I mean I agree that it's essentially theft if you take something and never pay for it. But in the eyes of the law it's NOT theft if you HAND your property to someone and accept their promise to pay. At that moment it becomes a civil matter as you have consciously and willfully surrendered your property to another person. If you want to repossess your property then you should do it within the confines of the law.

But to try to go after the third party who bought the cue that you willingly gave up and made no attempt to get back is ludicrous.

And where was all this attention when Ren was trying to sell the cue? No one in the Filipino community knew that Ren was selling a cue that he hadn't paid for?

And beyond that where is the proof that this other person was the real owner of the cue?

Unreal.

If a guy has my cue and he hasn't paid for it then I am tracking his ass down and repossessing it and maybe any other cues he has as well for depriving me of the use of my property. I am glad I am not living in the Philippines because I'd be dead if people pulled this crap on me.

Good for you Ron! Thank you friendly Filipinos who helped!!!! I love the Philippines and Filipinos and can't wait to get back there. But when I come I don't want to do any pool deals - I just want to donate money to Efren Reyes and other players. :-)

3.Mr. Ron Shirley it is a beautiful cue, perfectly executed by my good friend Mr. Tony Bautista. I personally visited him from time to time to assess the construction progress. I urge you to keep it as another example of the talent of the Bautista brothers.


4.Know that I am not running after the cue as it would inconvenience everyone twice. I'm not that kind of fellow. In my own small way I try to see the positive side of things, at least you will have a prime example of the work of Mr.Tony Bautista and maybe it will open doors for him.


5.I admit to being upset with Ren and threatened him with legal action if he failed to make contact with me. I'm thankful he called me last night to talk about his matter and I wished his father well as he claimed the proceeds would facilitate medical care.


6.I ask that the Filipino community be spared of negative judgement because of the actions of one individual.


7.To AZ Billiards, please accept an apology from me on behalf of the Filipino billiards community for any inconvenience and negativity that this matter has brought upon this established website.

Lester, thank you for your post. It clears up many things.

I would love to meet you (along with many others who have helped in this situation) if I ever get to the Philippines.

The cue is definitely a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

I may be out of line in here... but as ren's longtime friend (more than a decade) i'd like to clear to everyone that ren never intended to scam anyone... he ain't stupid enough to put his real name and destroy the trust / credibility the pool community entrusted in him. he has alot of friends in here just silently observing... ren even asked for my assistance to shipped said cue days/week ago, fortunately I was far at my home province... but he manage, perhaps the "peers" did help? let us not condemn ren without knowing his side/reasons for the delay. coach lester and ren are also longtime friends im pretty sure they could settle their diff...

im appealing to all PI members to please understand ren's current crisis/situation...
father is ill and he is currently jobless...perhaps was the reason for the cue sale? perhaps he attended to more serious matters?

really sorry for the delay sir ron

There may be an excuse for the delay, but there is NO excuse for the lack of communication!:angry:

With that said, I'm a extremely happy to see the PI community step up to the plate and assist in resolving the matter.

Thanks cfrandy, that seems to be the root of the problem all along, the lack of communication.

As to the cue, the tips on the shafts are in really poor shape, do not hold chalk at all, are hard as rocks and need to be replaced. The shafts show a significant amount of bluing/discoloration and need to be cleaned and refinished also.

I am not sure if I will invest any more money in that cue to get the tips replaced and shafts redone.

Hi Chris,

You just have to find a local branch of Western Union in your area. All you need are my sending details. They'll give you a tracking number which I will need to claim the money here. I'll also need the name of the person who sent the money, as well as the address (usually the city will do). Here are my details:

I do have to point out for the sake of transparency that I have two versions of the cue I posted. I was planning to sell just one of them and keep the other for my personal collection but since there are two of you who are interested I'm willing to sell one to you. They are identical except that one has curly sapele as wood for the handle. The sapele handle aside from being more exotic, has more curly figures than the maple handle. The hit is virtually the same though as both cues are cored with straight grain maple.

I hope to get confirmation from you ASAP.

Are you sayin one can't have 2 cues? I have 3 Tascarellas but none are for sale. And furthermore I sure as HELL wouldn't send you a PM you don't know what it stands for! This sez alot about you! I didn't think it would be a big deal to show what was actually happening. I would have let the whole thing drop except that the whole thing is being chalked up to a simple lack of communication. He was communicating with me at the same time that he was ignoring Ron Shirley. He was ignoring Ron to try and get more people to send money. If not for Ron's timely post I would now be out 300 dollars. I feel bad that Ren has some problems but it doesn't excuse his actions.
