I am very new to photographing any event, and in low light, makes it that much tougher.
If some of you real photographers would like to critic these photos please do.
I was using 85mm 1.8 lens set at 2.0 and 1.8
ISO on most the pictures was 4000.
SS was 1/250 os a second up to 1/500 of a second.
Body 5Dmk 2


I met Mike Massey for the first at the parking lot at Buffalo Billiards In Reno earlier that day as we walked toward the main entrance door.
Pretty much made my day, he was extremely polite and gave one of his training DVD's. :dance:

Later that day when I seen him at Bar box championship he was the first one I photographed.
I hope my photographs don't make him regret ever meeting me :o

He was using a custom Meucci cue, and I ( think he said it was one of his designs.
Also noticed he was doing soft breaks with the same cue too..



Last year, first time photographing this event, when I went to watch a match at the Live stream table when I sat down my keys that I have clipped on a belt loop clanged against the aluminum bench and made a noticeable noise.
I was so embarrassed, that this year I kept a allot father from the table so I wouldn't distract any of the players hopefully.

I hope to take better photos next year.

Love the Pictures! I especially love the sharpness, the color and the low light look!

I love the in focus subject with the blurry back ground, however if you could somehow have the whole pool table sharp with the rest blurry, I think for me that would be a slight improvement. I understand, trying to get a perfect window of depth of field is probably daunting. Anyway, it was just a thought.

Please send me a few pictures. Of all the tourneys that are out there, the Reno tournament is the one I'd like to go to!

nice photos, good work, thanks for sharing.

just use the auto setting and figure anything much below 1/250 sec stands a chance of not being sharp if you, the camera or subject move. sharp is better than not sharp :-)

I will have to try that, I use manual mode 99.9 percent of the time that using auto mode never crossed my mind.

Even at 1/250 of a sec SS, any movement by the subject will blur the photo.

My 85mm 1.8 is my fastest lens I own.....

DOF ( Depth of field )

Because of the low light I was shooting wide open on the 85mm 1.8.
Pretty much giving up any DOP to be able to freeze motion.
My ISO was set at 4000 to get enough light and fast enough SS to freeze motion.
I normally shoot landscape or product photography with profession lighting Strobes or photo tent .
And my Dogs from time to time.
 
Well, the shepherd photo is my favorite- I love the mountains- but I also like the last ome, with mika. I see your shot glass...

His name is Buddy, he is more like Velcro, always wants to go.......

I had to crop that photo allot, I was about 40 ft from him.

( Shot glass ) O that was just a little cactus juice I use to clean the lens ;)

Meeting Mike Massey was great, I had no idea he was that tall.
When we met and walked into buffalo's pool room he put his arm over my shoulder .
I am 6.2 and he had me by a few inches.
He was extremely friendly , and likable person.

Plus he gave me one of his training DVD's .

I have always liked watching him do trick shots too. in my books he is the king of trick shots..
 
Nice photos. Have ever tried using auto mode, focus on subject (part button push) & then moving center. It gives a nice effect. You can capture the shooter in focus & move center to the table.
