Is it me or is there hardly anyone of any note in the Reno Open this year?

I can only see maybe 3 top players, Davis, Pagulayan and Morris.

What has happened to everyone else? I thought this event is a major tournament?

I think there are a couple other decent names there. (Parica, Schmidt, Eberle, Frost)

But there were definitely bigger names there last December. Archer, Souquet, etc)

I think it's a group effort by top players to avoid buying Rodney Morris a wedding gift...
(he's getting married in Reno during this tournament)

What the field lacks in superstars it makes up for with ALOT of underrated players, I mean 196 players is a damn impressive turnout. I guess the Archer and Souqets are missing out.

Good luck to Edwin Montal and the other Calgary players who made the trip down!

I guess the big names just don't come out west anymore. I mentioned the same thing about the Hard Times tournament a couple of weeks ago. That event only had 67 players and aboout 90% of them were California players.
The Reno Open is supposed to draw at least 200 players with only a $100 entry fee they really should be getting closer to 300 players in that event but I can't figure out why the some of the more well known players from the east refuse to come to the West Coast. I remember not to long ago when everyone would show up for these tournaments and Hard Times in Bellfower would be action central for pretty much the whole summer. This would happen every year.
Does anyone have any ideas why the pros don't want to come? Or why even if they do come they may only come for one tournament and not play in all of them even though they are running consecutive. The Pros were just in Las Vegas last month, Hard Times Sacramento had their annual jamboree right after that but had a terrible turnout. I think with 3 consective tournaments all with at least $10k added would give incentive to bring players out west. I guess not.

Hey buckster, I'm in it, probably the only Engish bloke!

I lost 9:5 to eberlee last night though from 5:2up, made a 6/9 combo and somehow scratched after a wicked double kiss and that changed the match. Made a coulple of mistakes but didn't get much of a chance after that.

Not many tables here compared to the vegas event and there are big gaps betweengames. But the comp is run very well and the tables play really nice.

There is Japan Open going on in a few days I think where the majority of the big dogs are playing.

Edwin has the skills to win the whole thing. Kruger can do top 5 I would think if he plays good. Those are the only 2 Calgary players I saw on there. Edwin I would say is as dangerous as anyone in the event.

Other players of note that have not been mentioned are Basavitch who JUST won a big event, and Glen Atwel might not be well known but he is strong.

Edwin is easily the most underrated player in the tourny and in Canada, he's on a collision course with Basavich in the brackets which would make for a hell of a match, if Edwin can beat him he will have a good chance to win it.

At first glance I know that this tournament doesn't seem as tough as December's, with no Archer, Soquet, Hall, or Jones, but there are a lot of **good** players that weren't here in December. I actually think this is a tougher field.

Hey, what about that Mendoza kid? Is he there? That kid is the favorite at every tournament he goes to.

The final 32 on the winner's side is looking REAL TOUGH!!
