HI, HAS ANYONE HEARD OR KNOW IF THE RENO OPEN IS ON FOR THIS YEAR ?. i KNOW THE SANDS IS HAVEING A HARD TIME NOW.
 
Just a guess I would bet "The Reno" open is Dead! The Sands is going through some changes and it seems to be no news from the Sands. I called them, asked about the event, they had no info. concerning the Reno Open Pool event.

Unfortunately, the Reno Open has been cancelled. This happened just after last year's event. The turnout has been shrinking every year for the last few years. Plus the hotel added more money to some of the other affiliated events.

The Sands has supportd pool for over 2 decades. Hopefully, the event can be re-structured and packaged in a profitable way - the Sands did NOT pull the plug because of hard times. They pulled the plug because the structure of the event made it impossible to even come close to breaking even. Without naming names, the hotel had some very bad advise on how to make the event work.

I think they lose $25K plus.

Too bad - but please supprt the Sands - they have done a LOT for pool.

The Sands is a great place to stay in Reno, they have great deals, give out great rewards for playing and the rooms are not bad at all. The slots have been good to us over the last few years as well
 
Reno Open

Word on the street is that they're trying to work out a deal with another casino for next year. I believe it will be several tournaments back to back actually. Hopefully it will all come together. The Reno Open was a fun tournament. Lots of 'hang out' time with friends and pro players alike.

with $26,500 added money and $15,000 guaranteed 1st place, i dont understand why participation is shrinking either. I always thought it was a great tourny
