Rep Points -- I'm still confused.

From what I read awhile back when I first joined, is that the more rep points you have the more potential banning power you have. You can petition to have someone banned who has less rep points then you to the mods...not sure if this is true or not, could be a stupid post I read that I should have red repped them, or even myself for believing it lol.

You are correct in your assumption. Has absolutely nothing to do with getting banned.

It seems to me that a user should be able to rep a post with one point. The number of reps to that post would be added to a user's cumulative total. In such a system the greens would take on meaning and the poster could see which of his or her comments were thought to be useful.

The option of commenting to the poster on the post is also of use.

That system makes perfect sense.

One rep = one rep point
regardless of who pulled the rep gun trigger,

It still would not entirely eliminate the circle jerk,
however it would take a lot more jerking with much
less satisfaction than the system in place now

From what I understand the amount of points you can give is about 1% of what you have. So anyone with less than 100 points will only be able to give grey reps. If I remember correctly it takes 2 or 3000 points to get 11 squares.

Since so many people have over 300,000 only one rep comment is neccessary. Nowadays whenever I get repped by someone at the top, I get around 100,000 points. When I started on the forum, the top people were able to dish out 50-70 points at a time. It took most of us months to get 11 squares.

I thought it was silly 4 years ago, I still think it's silly. Though I do appreciate the comments people leave.

You bet! Reading the comments is great!
That is, if you can read ;-)
